Highland Fjord- A 360 Degrees of Beauty Map

Description
A little bit of Norway. A wee bit of Scotland. A whole lot of scenery.

Real hightmap painstakingly altered to provide 360 degrees of realistic, beautiful background scenery every way you turn, as well as a pleasant, very playable main game area with some interesting terrain features, many of which are modified for playability.

Much more than just a map!
- Center play areas smoothed out for lots of useable space. Interesting terrain features like several overlook plateaus have been altered for playability in-game. At least one side will be even enough to run a road up, or have interesting slopes to wind smaller roads up. There are also many smoothed out winding glens to run a road from the main city to outlying areas for scenic villages.
- Several overlook hills in main play area to perch a castle, statue, or whatever else you dream up!
- Airplane flight paths are programmed so planes circle over the main play area. Click follow on a plane, go to camera mode and enjoy the sights!
- Trees concentrated only in central valley play area to
1) be easier on your computer's graphics
2) simulate the look of rugged highland areas
3) leave free TONS of space until you reach the "maximum number of trees" (map has 40,500 out of a max of 250,000). Go ahead, place lots of trees! They can help make windy mountain roads and hilltop villages look great!

- Plenty of room for those who use the standard 9 square areas! Users of "all areas purchasabl" mods will benefit from the low memory load design and the few additional challenging areas in the perimeter. Several mountain ranges have narrow smoothed valleys allowing winding roads to link to perimeter areas.

Please let me know if you have any input, desired changes, additions, etc.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I am!

Thank you for that :) - Now you made the choice even harder now you have come out with a new map.. - I am thinking I might give the new one a go since I am not very good and easier terrain might help me a bit more :P - Thank you again for such great maps...

There you are @simplicity! This map is a bit more challenging terrain-wise than my newer map Emerald Coast, but I still got a decent sized city into Highland Fjord even with the limitations

@simplicity Hey, that's a great idea! I thought I had included one here... oh wait, duh :D I guess that might be helpful lol

Great work, now I don't know which map of yours to play on :P
One question if I may, is there any chance you could give us a picture of your maps please, so we could maybe try to plan things out a bit when starting out etc :)

Yup, I love the effect of the mountains in distance. I've been experimenting with something similar but with mountains out at sea (in very corner of map) so they look like far-away islands.

Hi @aubergine18! I'm glad you asked! There are a few options:
1) Yes if you have one of the "all areas purchaseable" mods. There is a lake surrounded by insanely high mountains where you can put a dam producing high MW. It's the side where the bridges cross a deep gorge. There's just one bend that enters the 32 square area (I moved the bend there on purpose)
2) If you don't have one of those mods, I had that in mind from the beginning, but it just spoiled the nice views and looked unrealistic.
3) The next map "Emerald Shore" (Irish!), which is almost done, has a ridiculously fast river with an area for a hydro dam near the center of the map. I'm making a series of maps on the same theme. I think the landscapes I have seen across Ireland, Scotland and Norway are amazing. I still have to test the map, but I think if you follow me you will know when it comes out.

Does it contian any locations suitable for building hydro dam?

@Ozymandias and @Diavoler here is the map in Temperate version. It took a little longer to do so I will get to boreal probably tomorrow. Hope you like it! http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=434432983
