Opening
Although the Red Army was going through a period of modernization, it was still woefully unprepared for the conflicts that came in 1940 and 1941. The German onslaught that came in the initial stages of the war forced the Soviets to rely on weapons that were both cheap, reliable, and easy to produce, because the Soviets had to arm so many men at such a rapid pace. As the war progressed, advances were made in their weapon technologies, but nothing significant gained enough momentum in the small arms field to outright replace their aging weapons.
Rifles
Mosin

Full Name: Mosin-Nagant M91/30
Max Range: 70m
Accuracy: High
Rate of Fire: Slow
Reload Time: 3 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 5
Weight: 4.6 kg
Effective Range: Medium-Long
Carried By: Partisans (x6), Assault Infantry (x3), Regular Infantry (x5), Marines (x3), Guards Rifle (x2) Charge! (x16), Black Coats (x5)
One of the oldest weapons used during the war, the Mosin-Nagant was the standard rifle for the Russian Army. Originally planned to be replaced by the SVT line of rifles, the war ended up delaying those plans indefinitely, and the Mosin was produced in greater numbers due to the simplicity of its design. The Mosin is a bolt-action rifle that yields high accuracy at the cost of a very slow rate of fire. Due to that slow rate of fire, these weapons are best used in numbers, or at longer ranges where they can make the most of their accuracy. However, if it must be used at close range, one shot will kill most enemy infantry immediately.

Mosin Sniper

Full Name: Mosin–Nagant M91/30 PU Sniper
Max Range: 100m
Accuracy: Very High
Rate of Fire: Slow
Reload Time: 3 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 5
Weight: 4.6kg
Effective Range: Medium-Long
Carried By: Sniper (x1), Guards Sniper (x2)
The Mosin Sniper is the most accurate, and in the hands of the right soldier, the most lethal of all the Russian rifles. The rate of fire for the Mosin Sniper is identical to the Mosin, however, all sniper rifles require that the soldier take the time to acquire aim at longer ranges, making the actual time between most shots very long. In close ranges though, sniper rifles can fire at the same rate as any bolt action, meaning that the AI does not have to wait to acquire a target.

SVT-40

Full Name: Samozaryadnaya Vintovka Tokareva, 1940
Max Range: 70m
Accuracy: High
Rate of Fire: Moderate
Reload Time: 3 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 10
Weight: 4.7kg
Effective Range: Short-Long
Carried By: Marines (x3), Black Coats (x2)
The SVT was designed to replace the Mosin, and was on its way to replacing the aging rifle by the time the Russo-Finnish War started. However, during the German invasion many of these rifles were lost, and the cheap and reliable Mosin was given priority in factories. As a result, most of these rifles that were made during the course of the war were given to specialist units. When compared against the SKS rifle, the SVT-40 has a faster RoF and also does more damage.

SKS

Full Name: Samozaryadnyj Karabin sistemy Simonova
Max Range: 70m
Accuracy: High
Rate of Fire: Moderate
Reload Time: 3 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 10
Weight: 4.7kg
Effective Range: Short-Long
Carried By: Red Guard (x2), Mechanized Red Guard (x2)
Designed during the war, the SKS was also designed to replace the Mosin, but never succeeded in that due to the development of the AK-47. The SKS does less damage than the SVT because it uses a shorter bullet, similar to the bullets used by the StG 44. Similar to the SVT, this weapon was only given to specialist units. When compared to the SVT, the SKS is the more accurate weapon, and even though it puts out less damage, it still deals a respectable amount of damage.
SMG
PPSh

Full Name: Pistolet-Pulemyot Shpagina
Max Range: 50m
Accuracy: Below Average
Rate of Fire: Very Fast
Reload Time: 3.50 seconds
Ammo Capacity: 71
Weight: 4.9 kg
Effective Range: Short-Medium
Carried By: Assault Infantry (x5), Regular Infantry (x1), AT-Rifle Infantry (x2), AT Infantry (x2), Guards Rifle (x4), Spetsnaz (x2), Charge! (x4), Black Coats (x1), Radio Operator (x3), Soldier(x1)
The PPSh is the standard SMG used by the Soviet Union, and has a very very high rate of fire, and a magazine which can support it. The PPSh is probably one of the better SMGs for this reason, however, accuracy is low because of it.

PPSh-41

Full Name: Pistolet-Pulemyot Shpagina
Max Range: 50m
Accuracy: Below Average
Rate of Fire: Very Fast
Reload Time: 2.50 seconds
Ammo Capacity: 35
Weight: 4.5 kg
Effective Range: Short-Medium
Carried By: Regular Infantry (x1), Combat Engineers (x4), Mine Disposal Experts (x2), Tank Commander (x1), Shock Infantry (x3), Assault Troops (x8)
A slightly modified PPSh, the 41 has a smaller magazine, dramatically reducing the reload time on the weapon.

PPS-43

Full Name: Pistolet-Pulemyot Sudaeva
Max Range: 50m
Accuracy: Average
Rate of Fire: Very Fast
Reload Time: 2.50 seconds
Ammo Capacity: 35
Weight: 4.5kg
Effective Range: Short-Medium
Carried By: Red Guard (x4), Mechanized Red Guard (x6)
The PPS-43 is another weapon that was developed during the war, and this particular weapon performs very similarly to the PPSh. The main differences are that this weapon can put out more damage per bullet, as well as a slightly higher sustained accuracy due to a slightly slower rate of fire.

MP-40

Full Name: Maschinenpistole 40
Max Range: 50m
Accuracy: Below Average
Rate of Fire: Fast
Reload Time: 2.75 seconds
Ammo Capacity: 32
Weight: 4.4 kg
Effective Range: Short - Medium
Carried By: Partisans (x2)
Using whatever weapons they could find, the Partisans scavenged these MP 40s from the Germans. See the German guide for more info.
Machine Guns
DP-27

Full Name: Pulemyot Degtyaryova Pekhotny
Max Range: 80m
Accuracy: Low
Rate of Fire: Fast
Reload Time: 5 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 47
Weight: 12.7 kg
Effective Range: Short-Long
Carried By: Machine Gun Infantry (x1), Marines (x2), Guards Rifle (x2), Black Coats (x2)
The DP-27 is the standard MG used by the Soviets in Assault Squad 2. Boasting a comparably moderate rate of fire and decent accuracy, it is a solid weapon on the field.

DT-29

Full Name: Pulemyot Degtyaryova Pekhotny
Max Range: 80m
Accuracy: Below Average
Rate of Fire: Fast
Reload Time: 5 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 60
Weight: 12.9kg
Effective Range: Short-Long
Carried By: Red Guard (x2), Mechanized Red Guard (x2)
The DT-29 is a heavily modified version of the DP-27. These modifications have given the DT a higher rate of fire, and a larger magazine. The damage outputs appear to be the same.

DS-39

Full Name: Degtyaryova Stankovyi - 39
Max Range: 80m
Accuracy: Average
Rate of Fire: Fast
Reload Time: 5 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 250
Weight: 15.8kg
Effective Range: Short-Long
Carried By: Vehicles (M-72 Motorcycle, GAZ-67B Jeep)
The DS-39 is a Soviet heavy machine gun, and its performance is what you would expect from an HMG. Boasting one of the largest ammo counts in the game, this weapon is capable of putting out a sustained amount of fire, and its rate of fire is only slightly slower than the MG 42. This is probably one of the better MGs that can be used in the game.

.50 Cal M2HB

Full Name: Browning Machine Gun, Cal. .50, M2, HB
Max Range: 90m
Accuracy: Low
Rate of Fire: Fast
Reload Time: 6.25 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 100
Armor Penetration:
-10m: 23mm
-50m: 12mm
-90m: 6mm
Weight: 234 kg
Effective Range: Short - Long
Carried By: M5A1
Given to the USSR through the Lend-Lease Act with the USA, the .50 cal is the most devastating out of any man-portable weapon in the game, and can only be found on the M5A1 halftrack. See the US guide for more info.
Anti-Tank Weapons
14.5 PTRS

Full Name: ProtivoTankovoye Ruzhyo Simonov
Max Range: 80m
Accuracy: Moderate
Rate of Fire: Average
Reload Time: 3.50 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 5
Armor Penetration:
-10m: 28mm
-50m: 19mm
-80m: 12mm
Weight: 18.5kg
Effective Range: Short-Medium
Carried By: AT-Rifle Infantry (x1)
Developed at the same time as the PTRD, these weapons should have the same penetration capacity (but probably for game balancing reasons they don't). This particular weapon is a semi-automatic rifle that is on par with most other AT rifles. While it doesn't pack the punch that the PTRD does, it has a significantly faster rate of fire.

14.5 PTRD

Full Name: ProtivoTankovoye Ruzhyo Degtyaryova
Max Range: 80m
Accuracy: Above Average
Rate of Fire: Single Shot
Reload Time: 3.25 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 1
Armor Penetration:
-10m: 42mm
-50m: 25mm
-80m: 15mm
Weight: 18.1kg
Effective Range: Short-Medium
Carried By: Guards Rifle (x2)
The PTRD is the best AT rifle in Assault Squad 2. Not only does it do significantly more damage than the PTRS, but it also has higher accuracy. The only drawback to this gun is that it is only a single-shot weapon, meaning that you have to reload after every shot fired.

M1A1 Bazooka

Full Name: Rocket Launcher, M1A1 "Bazooka"
Max Range: 35m
Accuracy: Moderate
Rate of Fire: Single Shot
Reload Time: 5 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 1
Armor Penetration: 120mm
Weight: 8.9 kg
Effective Range: Short
Carried By: Red Guard (x2), Mechanized Red Guard (x2), AT Infantry (x1), Black Coats (x1)
Given to the USSR through the Lend-Lease Act with the USA, the Bazooka was the only AT rocket used by the Soviets during the war, and was used in small numbers. See the US guide for more info.
Other Small Arms
TT

Full Name: 7,62 mm Samozaryadnyj Pistolet Tokareva obraztsa 1930 goda
Max Range: 40m
Accuracy: Above Average
Rate of Fire: Semi-Automatic
Reload Time: 3.25 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 8
Weight: 1.1kg
Effective Range: Short
Carried By: Officer (x1)
The TT is a semi-automatic pistol used by the Soviets, and was mostly issued to officers. When compared with the Nagant, the TT has marginally better accuracy.

Nagant

Full Name: Nagant M1895 Revolver
Max Range: 40m
Accuracy: Above Average
Rate of Fire: Semi-Automatic
Reload Time: 3.25 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 7
Weight: 1.1kg
Effective Range: Short
Carried By: Tank Crew (x1)
The Nagant is the standard issue Soviet pistol, and performs about as well as you would expect from a standard pistol.

Nagant with silencer

Full Name: Nagant M1895 Revolver Suppressed
Max Range: 40m
Accuracy: Above Average
Rate of Fire: Semi-Automatic
Reload Time: 3.25 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 7
Weight: 2.6kg
Effective Range: Short
Carried By: Spetsnaz (x2)
The silenced Nagant is a specialized pistol that comes equipped with a silencer and does much higher damage per-round than the average pistol.

Flamethrower

Full Name: ROKS-2 / ROKS-3
Max Range: 25m
Accuracy: Precise
Rate of Fire: Extremely Fast
Reload Time: Manual
Ammo Capacity: 80
Weight:
-Flamethrower: 1 kg
-Fuel Tank: 83 kg
Effective Range: Short
Carried By: Flamethrower Infantry (1), Shock Infantry (x1)
The Flamethrower is a brutally effective assault weapon most commonly used to flush enemy soldiers out of a defensive position. The short range means you need to get very close, which means you will have to either sneak your way up to your target, or advance under the cover of suppressing fire. Either way, the flamethrower does devastating damage to any infantry it touches, but its uses can go beyond killing enemy infantry. Fire weapons can be used to clear trees and bushes away, depriving the enemy of cover, burn entire buildings down, and sustained application of fire to a vehicles engine can destroy even the heaviest of tanks. When you eventually run out of fuel, you must manually refuel the fuel tank. Since ammo trucks don't carry fuel tanks and they also don't auto-reload it for you, equip the gas tank (shown above) by right clicking it in your inventory. Once it is equipped you can walk up to almost anything that contains fuel in it, like vehicles or a fuel drum. Once you are done, you can reequip your flamethrower and go burn more stuff down. Enjoy.

Flare Pistol

Full Name: N/A
Max Range: 60m
Accuracy: Very Very Low
Rate of Fire: Extremely Fast
Reload Time: 26 Seconds
Ammo Capacity: 5
Effective Range: Medium
Weight:
-Flare Pistol: 1.1 kg
-Radio Pack: 0.7 kg
Carried By: Radio Operator
The flare pistol allows the soldier firing it to call down a small volley of artillery fire. The flare projectile is parabolic, so you can fire it over obstacles and cover between you and your target. Although the accuracy of this weapon is low, the artillery fire that rains down shortly afterwards more than makes up for it, allowing the high spread to work to your benefit. Upon reloading, the soldier will take ammo out of the radio pack to prepare another volley.
Appendix A, Soldier Stats
A Note On Accuracy
During the course of these guides, we have been able to determine that there are quite a few different factors that go into determining accuracy, and this probably applies to vehicles as well. Each weapon in Assault Squad 2 has different values of each of these, which all contribute to the overall accuracy of a weapon. Additionally, accuracy will slightly increase the more you fire at a given target.
  • Base accuracy: The size of the circle before you shoot.
  • Recoil: How big the circle grows after you shoot a round. Upon a closer look it appears that recoil is slightly different on a shot-per-shot basis.
  • Recovery: How long it takes for the circle to go back to normal after a shot, this is what determines sustained accuracy.

Appendix B, Weapon Comparisons
The weapons listed in this section are ordered from highest rate of fire, to lowest. All the rating numbers are in ascending order (worst is lowest), and they are also relative to eachother. For example, the difference in damage between the Johnson and DeLisle is very small, but the difference from the various bolt actions to the M1A1 is pretty significant. These tables are here to give you a general idea of what you're dealing with when it comes to these weapons.

Are you referring to the Ostfront DLC? If so, no, I don't plan on purchasing that particular DLC. Thanks for the heads up on the DS though

A note about the body armor that someone else mentioned, it only works against explosives, if you do some googling the armor was designed to protect against shrapnel an was too thin to stop much else, this is reflected in game which I think is great!
