As other civilizations in the Sol System began to expand, it became clear to the Republic that they could no longer rely on their Navy alone to defend their colonies. To respond to these new threats, the Sleipnir MBT was created as a highly durable, yet flexible battle tank. The Sleipnir uses state of the art technology, allowing it to hover above any surface, whether in a Zero-G environment or not. This gives the tank an advantage over the wheeled vehicles favored by many other factions, by allowing a higher level of maneuverability, immunity to pressure-triggered mines, and, most of all, a limited flight ability.

Hovering -------------------------------------------------------------

The Hovering process is all automated through sensors, so there is nothing you need to do control wise to maintain it. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

The hovering works by using gravity to pull the tank downwards when it is too high, and engines to push it back up when it gets too low.

Gravity activates above 2m
Engines Activate below 1.5m - a ventral proximity warning will also pop up in the pilot's seat at this point

In the Pilot's seat, you can find several flight controls (view the screenshot above) to help you in specific situations. Most of the time, you should not need to use these controls.

- The tank has 2 gravity generators inside of it, pulling down on 5 artificial mass blocks. For best results, try to keep the pull on the tank at 2 Gs. If you are in an environment that already has Gravity, you can turn one of the generators off. However, for Zero-G it is recommended that you use both internal Gravity Generators.

- You can turn off the artifical mass blocks if you wish to fly away from a Gravitational environment.

- Similarly, you can deactivate either/both sensors which control the hover (the one that activates/disables gravity and the one that activates/disables the engines) for more precision control. However, this is not recommended.

**Keep in mind that there are no downward thrusters. All downward movement is made through gravity.**

**It is recommended that you do not try highly aggressive maneuvers with the tank, as it may overcompensate and fly away from the terrain. For best results, do your best to keep the tank level as you fly, and slow down when negotiating obstacles.**

the only way i see would be using of atmodpheric engines in groubs with a sensor based hovering

i would think all it needs is an update to mods. honestly, though, i have no motivation for that since i tend to be busy with other projects or real life these days (thus why my new ship content has been quite slow). i've also become heavily disillusioned with mods, seeing as half my creations are broken because mod authors stop updating or switch things out.

not to vent or sound pessimist, mod authors are free to do what they want. but i say that so you'll understand my reasons. regardless, if you're up for updating the tank with newer mods, i'm all for letting people do that, and can add it into the collection as the new version

is there a way to make this planet ready?
Slader Harkeness 29 Nov, 2015 @ 2:41pm

it's fine, feel free to upload your own. just cite for inspiration if you will

hello, i made a tank based off yours. its chasis is near identical in most of the craft. this one is more up to date, in that it works in atmosphere. before i publish i want to know how much credit you want, or if you would rather upload it yourself. feel free to send me a friend request if you dont want to discuss this here.

@Corvid - last i tested, you cannot remote control a turret while someone else is piloting the craft (you get the 'someone else is using this ship' message) so a gunner becomes pointless, and a pilot can only control the turret when stationary.

@Webmind - stealthy torpedo ship would be this, though not exactly u-boat style: http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=485874745

Out of curiosity, would controlling the turret through a Gyroscope/control block combo break it? It'd be a fair bit more intuitive than a control panel.

The cover photo looks kinda like a U-boat; have you made a submarine equivalent (stealthy torpedo ship) yet?

yes it is conveyored
