Modular Extrusion Platform - Custom Ship Printing - w4stedspace

Description
The world to accompany the attached video from my YouTube channel!

The 'MEP' is a platform designed to allow custom ships to be printed from a series of blueprints to allow a range of ship designs and layouts to be easily produced from a single station. Right now the blueprints are limited as this is version 1 but I intend to expand on this concept in future with the ability to build larger craft and more blueprints.

Usage:

PLEASE check the video above, it's much easier to see how it works.

All parts are availible in the world as blueprints if needed but this should work without needing to change anything.

1- Print ship pressing ONE button at a time and then allowing that section to complete
2- Hit release on the main controls and fly it away.
3- Hit reset on main controls to put system back ready to build another.

Will do my best to answer any questions in the comments but PLEASE read the description and watch the video first :)

If you found this interesting or helpful please consider visting my YouTube channel for more Space Engineers tutorials, guides and videos.

Hello I was wondering if you could post the link to your Trident Shipyard 3d Printer? I am having a bit of trouble trying to build an automated ship yard for my automated fleet.

Seperation thruster issue persists on this version still yeah, although have an updated and longer version up now that's setup a bit differently in that respect. There should be a group on each module but some combinations of build make that group disappear and I'm yet to work out why it's doing that.

@Granjor: Any issues with the merge block detaching will be ownership related, shouldn't have any issues if the ownership is left on 'nobody'

Neat idea! Lately I've been looking into automated "ship factories" myself, and this is one of the most streamlined set-ups I've seen so far. But I have to wonder whether or not it would work as well in perfectly in survival mode... In the very least, it seems like one would have to load up the ship with fuel before cutting it away from the pistons, to keep it from drifting unpowered the moment something bumps into it.

interesting, did you fix the separation thruster issue?

I noticed in your video that yes you got the name of the group wrong but when you checked the built ship their was no thruster group.

you may have to make the group for thrusters on each individual module that has thrusters rather than on the cockpit alone, you may be losing the grouping when the modules are built but if they all have the same groups they may merge together on the built ship.

for some reason the morge block on the engine module wont connect and it just floats in space before the first stage completes

Really nice idea. Do you plan to extend your system to add wings, nacelles and interior compartments (like quarters, medbay etc.)

You are a genious.

Could you use a rotator to rotate the ship out of the construction platform before you release it?

Believe this should be fixed ownership now, someone please let me know!
