Yeah, that's one of the differences of Nightmare difficulty. AFAIK these are the things it changes...
- No HUD. Makes it more immersive, but you do need some experience with the game to get through it that way.
- No maps. Again - definitely need to know your way around the game before trying Nightmare!
- Fuzzy motion tracker. It's still useful for pointing the way to objectives though.
- Much lower likelihood of finding item pickups (ammo, batteries and crafting materials) in cabinets or on corpses. Items which appear in set locations of the map are unaffected, such as the ones on the shelves of the rising/lowering stacks in Seegson Synthetics.
- Alien aggression: it hunts you for longer before giving up to lurk in the ceiling vents, and you have less time to hide in floor/wall vents before it comes looking for you.
- The alien can spot you more easily.
- Non-alien enemies deal 25% more damage than Hard.
Yup, by salvage I mean crafting parts. Bonding Agent, Ethanol, SCI Injector, scrap, etc. The exact content is variable - you'll find more stuff on Novice difficulty, and very little on Nightmare.
