[Spoilers] Wesker, villain or hero?
От Burn
My name is Albert Wesker.
I work for the Umbrella Corporation, a pharmaceutical company that secretly manufactures bio-organic weapons.
Their most prominent research facility is the Arklay Research Facility hidden beneath the Mansion of Lord Ozwell E. Spencer in the Arklay Mountains, near Raccoon City.
I was stationed there, it's the place where it all began and now ... now I will go back and finish my job.

Introduction

Umbrella Corporation was officially founded in 1968 by Lord Ozwell E. Spencer, Sir Edward Ashford and Dr. James Marcus. It has multiple research facilities all around the world, where groundbreaking research is being done on various viruses.

When I was stationed at the Arklay Research Facility I met a brilliant and talented researcher named William Birkin. At the time I was unable to realize what we would achieve from our partnership. Not only would we greatly advance Umbrella’s virus research program, but we also would create the ultimate bio-organic weapon.
1978, the year we started
The first time I saw that place, was in 1978. That makes it about 20 years ago. I remember looking down from the helicopter and seeing the old mansion. It seemed quite normal from above, but when seen from the ground there was something foreboding and unapproachable about it.

As soon as me and Birkin got off the helicopter the head of the facility was standing in front of the elevator ready to greet us. From that day on, the Arklay Research Facility was ours. As Chief Researchers, at the age of 18 and 16, we were put completely in charge of all aspects of the facility.

We ignored the head of the facility and got on the elevator. I had already memorized the building layout the day before, and Birkin, although he had no bad intentions, never really payed much attention to other people. Usually people get irked from the first 5 seconds that they meet us, but the head of the facility had no reaction at all. I didn't really pay him any mind. We all were Umbrella's puppets after all. The CEO, Ozwell E. Spencer, also one of Umbrella’s founders, was the main guy in charge of America's T-Virus research.

The whole time we were riding in the elevator, Birkin never took his eyes off the documents he was holding. The document that Birkin was scrutinizing so closely was a report about a new virus that has shown up in Africa. It was called Ebola. At the time there were many people, all throughout the world, who were studying the Ebola Virus. However, Umbrella was studying it not to find the cure, but to weaponize it.

As you probably know, the death rate of someone affected by Ebola is 90 percent. In 10 days it quickly destroys the person's organs. Even now 20 years later, there are no known ways to prevent it or cure it. It could, quite possibly, destroy a large part of the human race.

Of course even before this, due to the "Biological Weapons Prohibition Pact", it was illegal for us to study the virus as a weapon. However, even if we weren't the ones to research it, there was no proof that someone else wouldn't be doing that same thing and so it was considered legal and necessary for Umbrella to research it. You got to love Umbrella’s lawyers. There is a thin line in international law between what is acceptable and what is prohibited. But in my experience there really is no difference in the way in which a virus is researched, may it be for a cure or for a weapon.

Birkin wasn't really interested in the Ebola virus. The Ebola virus had too many weak spots. It could only survive for a few days if not inside a human body, which means it would die if it’s under sunlight for too long. Since it kills the host too quickly it doesn't have enough time to transfer and infect other hosts. Finally, the virus is only transferable through direct contact and so it can be easily prevented. A victim of the Ebola virus would become weak, unable to stand or walk, dying before the virus is able to attach to others. But what if the RNA (Ribonucleic acid) of the Ebola Virus could actually be altered so the victim would become more resilient to it and even when about to die would have the strength to walk and infect others with the virus?

The Arklay Research Facility was built with the purpose of answering questions like this. Officially it was just a pharmaceutical company researching cures to viruses, but it was really a factory for manufacturing biological weapons. The idea was to modify the genes of viruses like Ebola in order to produce a weaponized virus. And so we began to research the T-Virus.

RNA based viruses can easily be mutated. Through those mutations, it is possible to strengthen their traits and create better viruses. This unique discovery was made by Sir Edward Ashford, one of the Umbrella’s founders.

We changed elevators several times while going deeper and deeper into the complex. As we arrive to the lab it was the first time we had met her. We hadn't heard a single word about her before. She was a secret of the utmost confidentiality at the research center. And they didn't let any information about her out of the compound. According to the records, she was at the research center from the very moment it was first built. She was 25 years old. We didn't know her name, nor why she was here. All we knew was that she was used as the experimental subject host since 1967. Umbrella did experiments on her for all of 11 years.

Seeing the results of this test subject, we were very optimistic about our T-Virus research.
1981, the year of the 10 percent
We made great advancements with our T-Virus research in our first three years. However, it was impossible to get a 100 percent infection ratio. About 10 percent of the people, who were injected with the T-Virus didn't get infected at all. And this was something that, no matter how hard we researched, we just couldn't overcome. A disease that would affect 90 percent of all humans seemed to me to be quite a powerful weapon. But Umbrella didn't see it that way. Umbrella was demanding for a super virus, that could easily wipe out entire populations.

It was at this moment I started to suspect that something was wrong. You see, one important characteristic of biological weapons was that they could be developed cheaply. However, the biological weapon that we were researching was very costly. The military potential of the T-virus would never make up for the cost of research and production. Even to this day, I have no idea what Umbrella’s intentions really are.

But whatever real reason is, Birkin took Umbrella's demands as a challenge. To overcome the lack of the 10 percent, Birkin had an idea to take a genetic code from rabies and add it to the T-Virus. It would not just infect and kill the victim, but also make the victim feral and aggressive. Those 90 percent of infected could annihilate those who went unaffected by the virus, as well as, people who were wearing anti-viral gear and equipment.

Birkin would stay in the lab for 24 hours straight, attempting experiments that he hadn't really thought out. I tried to get as many samples from the subjects before they died, but I just couldn't keep up with Birkin's pace. Soon all our test subjects died, except her. She was already 28 years old. Undergoing several horrific but necessary experiments for 14 years of her life. Her consciousness had been taken away by a modified virus that had been injected into her 14 years ago by Dr. James Marcus, the third founder of the Umbrella Corporation.

While Birkin’s test subjects died one after another, she continued to survive. Why was only she able to survive this long? Her basic experiment data and that of other subjects seemed to be the same. We never solved this riddle. It just proves Dr. James Marcus was genius beyond his years. It's a shame Umbrella had to dispose of him.
1983, the year of sleepless nights
For the past 2 years, there were no significant results and time seemed to just stagnantly flow along. Birkin, himself, failed to advance in his research.

However, at that time I was concerned more about a different question at hand. The Arklay Research Center was surrounded by a dense forest. I often hiked through the forest but since the center was located in a mountain region there was never anyone to be found nearby. The only method of transportation was by helicopter. And the center wasn't exactly the type of place people came to visit.

One important reason for the fact that the center was located in such an isolated location was to prevent the virus from spreading out if there’s a leak. However, biological weapons aren't that simple. Viruses don't only infect humans. They also can infect animals.

In my curiosity I started investigating the T-Virus's communicative infection rate. It was then that I found out that the T-Virus could infect almost any kind of living thing. Not only mammals, but also any others species. The virus had the power to expand and disperse all over the earth. Any type of insects, fish and even plant pollen would act as the virus carriers.

The cost of our research was already astronomical, and adding to that the knowledge that the facility was most likely placed in this area deliberately, where a leak would cause an uncontrollable outbreak, made me have many nights without sleep. This was a major issue. I couldn't tell the other researchers, not even Birkin. I needed more information! I needed to get myself to a position that had more access to information!
1988, the year of the Tyrant
Birkin had become a father and already had a two year old daughter, Sherry. His wife was one of the researchers that worked at Arklay. And so, after 10 long years of research, the T-Virus was complete.

We successfully created a virus that would make the victim turn undead, but still capable of basic
movement and have aggressive behavior. Basically behave like a zombie from Hollywood movies.

Not long after our success we heard from our European colleagues about their biological weapon project “Nemesis”, which was in some way also a success. By manipulating genes, they had artificially created a bio-organic weapon, the Tyrant. With a destructive body suitable for battle, who unquestionably follows strict orders and obeys its program. It had one major flaw. After activation its brain would die in 5 minutes. We started our research in combining the T-Virus genes with the Tyrant's brain.
We wanted extend the amount of time the Tyrant had, so we could create the ultimate super soldier.

We used her as our test subject since her high endurance would be perfect for sustaining the Nemesis gene virus. The experiment yielded a result that was opposite from what I was predicting. Somewhere within that undying body of hers, there had been a change. For the 21 years that she had been here, for the first time something was actually happening. There was something within her. With the introduction of this upgraded T-Virus to her there was something new in her that gave way to a new form. Something that changed our destiny. It was the beginning of the G-Virus plan.
1995, the year of her death
It has been 4 years since I had left the Arklay Research Facility.

The scenery and buildings of the area never changes. While my helicopter was landing, I saw Birkin waiting for me. He arrived before I did. When four years ago Birkin’s G-Virus plan was approved, I did ask for a transfer to Umbrella’s intelligence department. As an undercover agent, I was transferred to a special forces unit of the Raccoon Police. For crisis management reasons of their illegal bio-organic weapons development, Umbrella had many of its people working in the police department. After a short while I became the leader of S.T.A.R.S. [Special Tactics And Rescue Service] team and conducted all sorts of intelligence activities for Umbrella.

The fact that I had given up on being a researcher probably seemed like a natural change that most people go through. Actually, the truth of the matter was that the G-Virus research had already reached a level that was beyond my ability.

Birkin was, as usual, fixated on some document. Apparently, he was coming to Arklay on a routine basis, but he was no longer assigned there. A while ago, he had been transferred to a huge underground research facility in Raccoon City. That was the main facility for his G-Virus research.

But to tell the truth, I really didn't think Umbrella would approve the G-Virus plan.
It deviates too much from the idea of a bio-organic weapon and it has too many unknown traits. A body infected with G-Virus would spontaneously continue to mutate. It will mutate without any stimuli, until the host dies. It is impossible to predict how someone infected with the G-Virus would mutate, making the G-Virus uncontrollable, thus useless as a weapon. Seven years ago when we started the G-Virus research, Birkin noticed this effect in the female test subject. Although there wasn't the slightest change in her appearance, inside she was constantly changing ... 21 years of inner mutations.

Birkin and I got on the elevator and rode down the complex, as we did the first time we arrived here, to the place where we had first met her. Due to her being infected with Nemesis, although only a minor account, she started to think and become conscious. She started to act in grotesque ways. Her behavior has continued to escalate. I don't know why she began to act in such a way, but because she became violent and there is no real use for a test subject like her, Umbrella decided to dispose of her. Her corpse was terminated. I never did find out, who she was and why she was brought here. She was just a test subject, but if she hadn't been here, then there wouldn't have been any T-Virus progress and we wouldn't have the G-Virus plan.

Birkin and I would probably be leading different lives now.
1998, the year of the incident
Freak murders that occured in a forest near the mansion started it all. It was clear to me that the T-Virus was the cause of those murders. Umbrella finally made its move. Initially I was instructed to keep S.T.A.R.S. out of the case. But, with the heightened emotions of the citizens, S.T.A.R.S. had no choice but to move in.

That's when my next order was given. For a comprehensive portrait of the T-Virus combat abilities, I’m ordered to dispatch the S.T.A.R.S. team to the Spencer Mansion. I will observe the T-Virus’s combat abilities against this highly trained Police Force, then I will dispose of the survivors, if there are any.

In this operation I finally have the chance to execute my own plans. In the midst of the whole affair I will take the T-Virus, it’s combat data, and Umbrella's ultimate bio-organic weapon, the Tyrant, and join forces with an opposing corporation of Umbrella.

Birkin provided me with a virus, that would put my body in a state of temporary death. It would then bring me back to life with enhanced mutated muscle strength. If I made Umbrella believe I was dead, it would be far more convenient to sell myself to the opposing corporation.

I just need to inject Birkin’s virus at the right moment.

I hope to accomplish my scheme without difficulties. If my plan fails and I die in the process without injecting Birkin’s virus, please inform the government about Umbrella’s research. Show the world this report. Let them know that I tried to destroy Umbrella from within.

Let them know that I died as a hero ...

Sincerely yours,
Albert Wesker

so... you think the wesker.. The wesker who was ordered to blow up the mansion by umbrella, and let the B.O.Ws kill the STARS members. Who pretended that Barry a father of two daughters had his family kidnapped and was going to be executed if he did not comply to force the man to betray his own comrades.. who planned to infect the entire world with a random ass missile he made in an african country for his weird eugenics fetish was potentially a decent guy? Like the man double crossed the stars members then he injected himself with a super virus and let himself die so he could fake his death and proceed to sell umbrella secrets to yet another pharma company and then went batshit insane and decided that he should infect the entire world so that the 1% of humans who were immune or could gain power from it should get to be the only ones to live... and you want to paint him as a decent guy? (potentially)

Dawg you weird.

wesker didnt inject himself with anything to gain his super human abilities, he got infected from the tyrant when he was killed and was luckily able to bond with the virus, plus you're taking stuff from someone that used the novels which aren't in any way connected to any of the games actual lore. just letting you know. a lot of what was said isn't actually any of the games lore for wesker. it's a good story but a lot of that is not actual "biohazard/resident evil game lore.
