"They say the best defense is a good offense...

... but they never said you couldn't have both."

A remake of my previous submission, The "Soviet Sidekick". This is one of the first real weapon resubmissions I've done so far, after refining my weapon creation process a bit. After encountering some problems with my Heavy revolver, I re-examined how I was constructing and compiling my items.

First off, I fixed some issues that were preventing my from demoing my weapons in-game. I also fixed an issue related to how my textures were rendering, creating a weird "flat" effect and washing out the texture. I'm going to apply these fixes to all of my weapons from now on.

This was the first real "big" weapon I made for TF2. Very complex, very challenging to make, and very rough in its original form. As I reimagined the gun, I realized that various parts of the model were very poorly constructed. The engine components, in particular, needed major reworking.

The sickles were also a huge eyesore. As I was iterating on the design, I found that they actually detracted from the overall feel of the weapon, and pulled too much focus away from the body of the gun. However, some commentors liked the sickle attachment, which made me reconsider junking them. As a compromise, I moved the sickles to a secondary style.

The shields turned out to be the most interesting piece, so I brought them to the forefront and made them a bigger part of the overall silhouette. Gaining inspiration from a friend's suggestion, I decided to experiment with the decal feature. You can see the results on the sample decal image. Note that these are simply decals I made up, and are in no way included with the weapon. I should also note that these decals comply with the palette restriction(oranges, browns, grays) that TF2 decals undergo.

I also removed the unnecessary custom animations from this weapon. This weapon now uses ALL of the stock minigun animations.

Finally, it's difficult to notice from the video/images I've provided, but the motor on the gun actually vibrates. It has its own passive "engine running" animation. This animation is attached to the gun, and therefore does not require any extra work integrating it with TF2.

Check out the discussion for more in depth info about the weapon's stats.

I think this would look better as a sentry.
