Throwable Spears [broken]

Probably pretty broken/crashy now, I haven't found time to keep this updated. ninjor1 uploaded a fixed version that you can use: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2408298309.

Allows you to throw spears with right-click. They do the same damage as normal spear attacks. By default, you will miss (and still lose durability) if you try to hit small creatures (bunnies, butterflies, birds, bees).

This was a mod that I did mainly because I was curious about how it would be done. I've seen people asking for throwable spears to be in the game before, so I figured I'd publish it. I don't think I'll use it myself, though. Any other modders who want to use the code, feel free (for example to make your own two-mode weapons).

Options:
  • Miss Small Creatures: Determines the chance to miss small creatures (default to 100%).
  • # Uses on Large: Sets the amount of durability used by throwing a spear at a large target, in terms of the number of times you can use it before it breaks. Defaults to 75, which uses twice the durability of a normal attack.
  • # Uses on Small: Same, but for small creatures, if you hit them. Defaults to 5.
  • Check Range: Enabled by default. You can right-click near enemies you want to throw the spear at instead of having to click directly on them. This helps for small and fast-moving targets, but the range check is a bit expensive, so if it causes lag for you, I'd recommend turning it off.

Just noticed your comment about broken/crashy up there, and am confused. I've not had issues with this mod at all. Do I really have to switch to another mod that may or may not have issues?

I know you don't plan to update this mod or anything, but I just wanna share my thoughts.

I think this mod is severely unbalanced, why would I want to throw my spear for the same damage but way more durability lost than just walking up and whacking it a few times? It makes no sense, even if I were to set it to always hit small creatures it would just be too op as a 75 use boomerang.

I say it should do a lot more damage to throw the spear, but you can't throw it at entities right next to you, and it should take the same uses away as a normal swing (assuming it actually takes time to travel and be picked back up) unless you wanna up the damage even more. Also I don't think I've actually used this mod, pretty sure I tried to but I play on controller, and gave up or something if I did.
