Mar Sara Mining Station - Scenario for the Level Design Contest

Description
Asteroid Station - Mar Sara is a scenario I've made for the Level Design Contest.

Scenario itself is designed for two groups with rather unbalanced equipment for the fight. It's meant to be played in survival mode so you actually need to watch the ammo count, resources etc.

Defenders of the Station itself have already lost their fight capable ships. They need to tweak what they got (maintenace ships & drones) and prepare for the attack. Checking the base layout is advised as well.

Attackers have just one fully equipped (but low on ammo) Drone Carrier "Scylla". They need to scavange from the earlier battle site where they lost their twin ship "Charybdis", scout the Station with drones and proceed with the attack. How to attack is up to their own creativity however I've made quite a few ways for an easier attack.



Detailed inventory and objectives.


Defending side:
Plenty of ammo and resources but main defending fleet has been already destroyed.

Mar Sara Mining Station:

-2 small mining ships (1 damaged)
-small maintenance ship (grinder/welder)
-Maintenance drones in Upper Bay.
-Big maintenance ship "Secula Secundus"
-Frigate "Entiga Prime" (not in the sector)
-Frigate "Entiga Secundus" (destroyed)
-Mar Sara Forward Station (destroyed)

Objectives:
All of our fight capable ships have been destroyed during the initial siege.
Prepare for the inevitable attack.
You should tinker with the remaining ships and drones to add some weapons onto them. Get those engineers to work!



Attacking side:
Limited ammo & supplies, no base.

Drone Carrier - "Scylla"
10 Drones (3 light, 3 medium, 2 heavy, 2 maintenance drones)
1 Dropship

Drone Carrier - "Charybdis" (Heavily damaged in the initial fight. Crew is most probably dead.)
Some still funtional drones may be scattered around.

Objectives:
1. Check the twin Drone Carrier "Charybdis" for any survivors and functional drones. Retrieve any equipment that may be useful. (Caution! Charybdis nuclear reactor is melting. Haste is advised.)
2. Proceed with attack on the Mining Station. Frontal attack won't probably work. Scout and infiltrate it with drones. Cutting out their main power source would most probably work. You may do it with any means necessary. We need that base Commander!


Watchouts for players:
1. As there's no way to make predetermined teams you'll need to agree on it earlier and spawn in the Med Bay you belong to (Scylla = attackers, Mar Sara = Defenders) and then create factions.
2. I've turned the turrets OFF so you'll need to turn them ON once everybody is in your faction already (I've made some nice red button panels that will make it easier).
However for balance reasons I would advice that big exterior turrets (gatling, missile) should not be used as automatic (should be just player controlled) as long the teams got at least 2-3 members. It will make the fight much more interesting.
3. All the stuff on the map does not belong to anyone so once you're done with above you'll need to go into control panel of the base/ships, mark it all (ctrl+A) and change the ownership to yourself (but check point 4 before!).
4. Have in mind that once you take over the Station or "Scylla" you'll also take over all the connected ships/drones. That's decent as you won't have to do it one by one BUT! it will also detach the drones from the connectors.
So watch out with Scylla as it's a ship and you may want to move it somewhere BEFORE detaching all the drones that are connected. Also connected ships tend to do weird stuff when moving in multiplayer so don't move "Scylla" too fast.
5. Drones have quite limited range as default to prevent waypoint spam. Remember to extend antena range when you intend to use one.

The base ended up quite big and the lights inside an asteroid are really consuming GFX power so you may need a high end PC to run smoothly. My PC isn't enough so had to ask a friend for help with filming the "action packed" movie part 1. Part 2 "walktrough" was filmed on my own PC so apologies for the potato quality.

Ah, also the map is mod free but personally I would add a darker skybox (with darker shadows) for a better atmosphere :)

it works, on load the game says it is in an obsolete files format and it will be converted in a updated format, i loaded it and saved incredibly smooth

Named it after that planet in Starcraft I see. Nice use of the Half-Life OST but since it was called Mar Sara you should have used some Starcraft music too. It reminds me of the science ship in Starcraft 1 during the Zerg campaign when the Terrans were going to nuke it but then the Zerg showed up and everyone got blow up from the nuke. Maybe you could recreate it somehow.

i like the use of pipes and half welded blocks to give more texture. it was a little laggy so i would hv toned down on blinking lights but it was still awesome. did great

I was messing around with your drone ship "Scylla" and her drones and loved the design of them so much that I went and made a small miner drone to go with them, all i really did was modify one of the maintenance drones to work with a drill but it works really nicely, thanks :p

Like for single player with scripts and stuff? Rather doubtful.
From the beginning it was meant to be a sandbox multiplayer scenario.
I may update it a bit one day but currently taking a break from SE.
