Para Bellum

Omschrijving
Ladies and gentlemen, dedicated Total War fans, it is our delight to present to you Para Bellum, a detailed and transforming battle overhaul for Total War Rome II. Some of you may remember Spacing Stabilisation Overhaul or "SSO", a battle modification released a few months after the launch of the game. Well, this isn't it, nor is it an updated version of it. This is something better.

The ultimate goal of the mod is to revisit what we, the team behind Para Bellum, consider to be the golden age of Total War battles. Therefore, the Rome II battle mechanics have in many regards been changed to the very core. The result is battles that by and large are similar to those seen in Medieval 2, with influences from a variety of titles both before and after. Careful attention has been paid to details, making cultures and their associated armies stand out from one another.

Para Bellum offers a variety of features, including

  • 1-HP system, carving a path for balanced and consistent missile damages
  • 50 new, culture-specific unit arrangements
  • Collateral damage: Cavalry charges will result in casualties for both sides
  • Deployment zones closer to one another
  • Re-arranged unit statistics and minor UI changes
  • Changed unit recruitment costs, names and sizes

And many more, such as entirely reworked morale, unit combat values and battle pace. In addition to this, the modification Alii Colores Romae has been incorporated, giving units a more realistic and appealing look over vanilla. Details on this can be found in the credits below. All images were taken during the development phase of the mod, when ACR was not yet incorporated.

Without further ado, we encourage you to Prepare for War

Note!

When starting a new campaign, put the difficulty to medium. This is necessary because the AI receives unproportional combat bonuses at higher difficulty levels.

I love the look and the campaign changes, unfortunately it breaks the unit AI. Units will sometimes just forget their orders and do nothing. They also ALWAYS do nothing after routing an enemy unit. This is particularly bad when they're fighting multiple enemy units: they'll defeat the first one then just stand there and die, ignoring the other units attacking them.

Pathfinding also seems to be worse, though I'm not sure.

It also might need an update. Keeps crashing or going black

Is there a reason why my faction leader's marriages only last a year? All of their wives drop dead within a few turns of "natural causes" They're all in their 20's, one was in their early 20's

Needs updating. CTD at start

I put my armies in an ambush stance and not a single successful ambush in 5-6 battles. An enemy army TRAVELS TO ATTACK mine who is sitting still and it triggers an ambush battle against me? What the fuck? Mod is great if you like getting dick slapped by some AI cheese.

Tried out the mod and really it has some good ideas but it makes some units insanely OP. Hoplites mainly. As a greek faction you don't have to bother to recruit anything else but Hoplites with this mod.
I've seen Hoplites being completely encircled, cavalry charges from behind do nothing against them and they still fight to the last man standing. Its extremely unrealistic. Especially Hoplites and their variations should be extremely weak against any kinds of attacks from behind. Making them rout faster than some other melee units.
I know the mod is supposed to add more variety and more strategy but it does the opposite. A real shame.
