(DX11) Nickel Alloy Armor Blocks

Description
(DX11) All textures updated (4/16/2016).

-

Model textures now DX11 (4/15/2016). Includes the Nickel Alloy Plate component, if you drop it.

Ill be doing the construction model textures soon, but wanted to get the final model textures put out finally, as they are the most important part.

Since there has been a lot of changes since 18 months ago in terms of everything, including seemingly ore distribution, Id like some suggestions on whether these blocks should be strengthened, reduced in cost, or changed in some other way to reflect that change in ore quantity. I remember when I made this mod, Nickel was just absurdly common, basically on par with iron, and you had nothing to do with it except make motors, which is reflective in the very high original cost of these blocks (1400 Nickel per cube, with the smaller large blocks proportionally priced (5/6, 3/6, 1/6)). Having played some over the last two weeks on a single habitable world map with medium asteroid density, it seems Nickel is now much, much rarer than it once was, so suggestions on modifying these blocks to be more representative of that now rarer Nickel ore is welcomed.

++Highly durable armor set utilizing primarily nickel, with silver and cobalt++

For a long while Ive been wanting a way to use all the nickel ore Ive mined, and refined. Nickel being a secondary metal in SE, I had trouble using any real quantity of the massive amounts of ingots I acquired in survival.

I decided a great way to use all this nickel was to find a block that used nickel as a primary component, but I could find none that did. It bugged me enough that I decided to make a simple mod that used nickel in the form of Nickel Alloy Plates to form very strong nickel based armor blocks.

All four standard block types are included: cube, slope, corner, I-corner. All are deformable like the vanilla armor.

I made custom textures for each of the four unique faces of the blocks (square, rectangle, right angle triangle, equilateral triangle) that the four blocks use. Did my best to simulate tiling. The color was based on a polished nickel look, but turned into a more brass look. I might change that in the future.

Ive done one two three custom construction model series for this set, those being the cube, slope, and corner. The other three two one uses the stock heavy armor construction model as a place holder until I can make a custom one for it.

The Nickel Alloy cube (NAC) has 32,430 HP; 105% more than the HA cube (HAC) (15,750).

It is constructed with 100 Nickel Alloy Plates, 50 construction components, 50 girders, and 6 metal grids.

The NAC is 2736kg (this might change upwards), HAC is 3000. NAC Build/Grind times are 40/80 (HAC 24/72).

The slope, corner, and I-corner are all proportional to the above in ratios of 1/2, 1/6, and 5/6ths, respectively.

One Nickel Alloy Plate is made from 14 nickel, 3 silver, 2 cobalt, 1 iron, and 0.1 silicon (loosely based on real world nickel super alloys, with the silver being an in-game substitute for chromium). It takes 3 seconds to produce.

All four blocks are under the "Nickel Alloy Blocks" G-menu tab.

This is my first mod. Hope you will enjoy it. Constructive criticism is welcome

--------

To be done:

-Create construction model series for slope corner, I-corner.
-Possibly adjust HP of Nickel Plate component. Depends on if I feel the component costs are in line with the HP increase over an HA cube (havnt played with the blocks in survival yet).
-Considering adjusting final mass upwards by adding iron bars into the Nickel Plate component cost, as mass filler (no mystery mass will be added)
-When/if KSH adds the ability to adjust resistance to deformation, increase these blocks resistance dramatically.
-Blocks are not colorable. If I figure out how to make blocks colorable, I might add it.

Has anybody used this with re-entry and drag physics? I build aircraft, and recently created an airframe with low enough resistance and powerful enough engines to pass Mach 2. Problem is, even heavy armor starts to deteriorate rapidly in conditions of 2,200+ degrees. NASA's X-15 used Nickel Alloy skin to take the heat, and the mod description says more durable than heavy armor. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

Can you please make more like this?

oh hey i forgot about this one.
delightful
i loved the bolted look along the edges and the sort of copper color.

That information is in the description.

Is this better than H. armor?

finally a nice armor mod made using the proper cube/block topologies instead of lazy trianglemesh that causes bad sim with large use.

Yo is the cost lower now?

That's a shame, the rivetted look is great, especially as a "repair".
