Below are my recommendation to buy only during sales (stash sales happen every month) to save budget:

The game is planned to be FREE TO PLAY on release but currently is paid to play in Early Access. It will only be free on all platform upon launch of the game (Patch 1.0).

To gain early access you can buy the access for USD 30 and this comes with 300 points to spend. You are basically buying 300 worth of points plus early access.

Hi Exile. If you are casual Path of Exile (POE) first time playing through the story mode, you don't need additional stash. You can just finish the story mode with the basic stash you have.

But once you complete story mode, start mapping and going into complex end game content, it is recommended to get additional stash for quality of game life improvement.

The picture above is a typical look of your basic stash when you complete campaign, start mapping in the end game. A nightmare indeed.

The problem will rise because each item have stacking limit. Example, a currency Transmutation Orb have 40 stacking limit. So if you have 150 transmutation Orbs, that would take 4 stash slots (40, 40, 40, 30).

If you have lots of money, then you can just buy anything you like.

But if you are a tight budget gamer, then I recommend you skip the cosmetic (for now) and buy stash only for your first micro transaction spending.

I highly recommend that you don't spend any point for stash at least until you reach endgame and buy only during sales.

After having enough stash, you can start buying other cosmetic items.

Please note that POE 2 is still new, so most of the stash tab look empty and you don't need the league stash tab e.g. delirium, essence. Overtime when more content and items are added, at that point you can consider buying those league stash tab.

The game is great, its free to play and have a lot of dynamic content added every 3 months. Please support the developer.

Type of Stash Tabs

• 1. Premium tab: Premium stash tabs can be colored and renamed by right clicking on the tab name. Right-clicking on an item in a premium stash tab allows the player to set a note on the item (for instance the buyout price) which makes it accessible to third-party trading websites through the Public Stash Tab API. You can assign affinities for specific items for the tab. This can be upgraded from Normal Stash.
  Price: 30-40 points or 10-15 point to upgrade from Normal Stash
  My Rating: Required at least one for trading.
  Comment: If you have bought or upgrade this before Patch 0.3.0, you can convert it into Merchant's Tab. This is irreversible.
  It is recommended that you upgrade it before patch 0.3.0.
  
  
  
• 2. Currency tab: Holds currency items, up to 5000 of each item. Also contains slots for miscellaneous currency items and one item slot.

• 4. Map tab: The Map Stash tab can hold up to 576 Waystones of each tier.
  
  Each Waystone tier is divided into six sub-tabs. Each of these can be customised or listed for trade individually. When you have the Map Stash Tab open, a Waystone from your inventory will be automatically stashed into the correct tab by Ctrl + Clicking it from your inventory, or with the Stash button on controllers.
  
  Enable the Waystone affinity in the tab options to ensure that Waystones are always sent to this stash tab, even if you have other stash tabs open.

  Some people might not like the zoom out 4 in 1 tab.

• 10. Merchant's Tab: Merchant's Tabs are used for Asynchronous Trade. Items in the Merchant's Tab will be searchable to the public on the Market Panel. Other players can view your Merchant's Tabs by interacting with Ange at your hideout, allowing them to purchase your items for sale for the listed price and a Gold fee.
  Price: 120-150 points

2. Merchant's Stash for Trading expansive item that you and your friend will never use and you have no space to keep. Its a waste to vendor it anyway. (30-40 points)

3. Waystone Stash for mapping. I recomended this once you start mapping / finish story. (130-150 points)
