[RP] Combine River City

A bit of Source 2, here in Source 1.

//Requirements//
Nothing else should be required. Everything should be packed into the map. The map file itself should be "rp_combine_rivercity" in the menu, minus the quotation marks.

Do note that while no game should be required, the size and scope of the map might cause some issues for users on lower end PCs despite rigorous optimization. As well, be aware that despite attempts to prevent conflicts, other workshop items might still conflict with assets used in the map.

//Gameplay//
  • A Source 2/Half-Life: Alyx inspired aesthetic, mixed in with some Beta elements.
  • Six different living spaces. Two in a dedicated apartment building, four in the old hotel.
  • Two different store fronts
  • Abandoned warehouse
  • Mini-train station
  • Mini-hospital
  • Wasteland area with two abandoned buildings
  • Combine HQ in City wall
  • Creekside resistance camp and dried up canal
  • Two different teleport destinations from a spawn room
  • Navmesh and nodegraph

While in the Gmod Sandbox mode, any dead bodies, blood stains, activated map scripts or other changes can be cleaned/reset using this: Pressing Q -> Utilities -> Admin -> Cleanup -> Cleanup Everything

//Development//
An original map was voted on by the Advisors, my Youtube members. Having a couple of ideas that I wanted to practice, I got to work on this. Originally it was supposed to be physically a lot bigger, but one thing has remained consistent: I wanted to challenge myself and bring Source 2 assets to Source 1. I also wanted to pair them with other higher resolution assets that were already made for Source 1 in order to help give them map a unique but familiar feeling.

The process was a bit complicated and took time. The map itself also had to contract quite a bit, but the contraction helped to ensure that the map was sufficiently detailed and each area got more importance.

Small graphical bug reports:

Door frame of the garage door that says vomo (voma?) is missing cubemaps, same goes for the area above the windows of the place that has the "AJ" sign on it. The pillars of the hotel in the middle of the city has missing textures, and a doorframe to the left of the main entrance of the hotel when you look at its facade also has missing cubemaps (the door with the combine lock on it)

Hl2 has the appearance of a Russian dictatorship, but these pre-war maps make this more evident and with a very strong appearance

This map is aesthetically good aside from the Combine "Gate" which feels like a Star Wars Imperial Wall. I think it would be great to modify as a roleplay map, one which prioritises in pushing everything together aside from that the map is overbearingly big with its streets, everything feels too far apart and such which makes it less roleplay friendly.

Bit disappointing that there is no genuine Nexus for Combine to use aside from the wall, but I doubt you had Half-Life 2 Roleplay in mind when making this so that can be forgiven.
