Border station Berlin Friedrichstraße

Description
Berlin Friedrichstrasse station is probably the best-known border station between the two worlds during the Cold War.
The station is located about 1.2 km behind the border on the East Berlin side on the Berlin Stadtbahn and has been an extraterritorial border crossing point from West Berlin to East Berlin since August 13, 1961. West Berliners can also transfer to the West Berlin S-Bahn lines of the North-South Tunnel and to U-Bahn line 6 without having to go through checks.

The station has been designed as a double terminal station for the S-Bahn from both directions since the Wall was built.
Trains from East Berlin turn around on platform C (track 5/6) and
trains from West Berlin turn around on platform B (track 3/4).

The long-distance train tracks on platform A (track 1/2) run continuously from east to west and were equipped with third rails for the S-Bahn after 1961 in order to be able to transfer vehicles and material from one network to the other. To the West these tracks were equipped with derailers.
There were only a few through running long-distance trains. Most ended at Zoologischer Garten (West) and Berlin Hauptbahnhof (now Ostbahnhof)(East). Only a few feeder trains from West Berlin and international long-distance trains, such as the Paris-Moscow Express, ran via Friedrichstraße. These were subject to border controls at Friedrichstraße.

The map stretches from Marx-Engels-Platz (now Hackescher Markt) to Lehrter Stadtbahnhof. In reality, the area shown was controlled by two signal boxes, Friw and Frio.
Self-blocking signals have the ∞ and can therefore be automated. All other signals must be set by the player. This includes the signal at Lehrter Stadtbahnhof, which was also controlled by the signal box Friw in reality in order to have control over the border area. There are no sensors.
The C platform also had a siding to the west of the platform, which was not used during normal operation as it was in the border area and was sealed off with metal gates. If a train had to use it for whatever reason, the train was manned by border troops.
A steel wall was also constructed between tracks 4 and 5 to prevent illegal border crossings.

The game is set in the morning from 7 to 8 a.m. during rush hour. The operation corresponds to the period 1977-1980 before the major Reichsbahn strike in West Berlin.

On the east side (platform 5/6) run the lines

B (Friedrichstrasse - Erkner),
F (Friedrichstrasse - Erkner),
E (Friedrichstrasse - Strausberg/Strausberg Nord),
G (Friedrichstrasse - Mahlsdorf),
C (Friedrichstrasse - Berlin-Schönefeld Central Airport) and
H (Friedrichstrasse - Königs Wusterhausen).

On the west side (platform 3/4) run the lines

H (Friedrichstrasse - Staaken),
E (Friedrichstrasse - Spandau West) and
L (Friedrichstrasse - Wannsee).

All lines, east and west, run every 20 minutes.

As the S-Bahn in the east and west was operated by the DR at that time and there were several line designations in the east as well as the west, the train designations on these lines were split. 1-9 in the western network and from 10 in the eastern network.
For example, trains E1-E9 run in the west and E10+ in the east.

The traffic on the long-distance tracks (platform 1/2) is a little busier than it would have been at this time of day. There will be a run by the S-Bahn material train and a vehicle transfer, as well as two long-distance trains.

Have fun as a signalman of two worlds
at Berlin Friedrichstrasse.

Thank you. The rating is of course something of personal feeling. In comparison to most of my other scenarios there is less automation, so more of a constant stress for the player. It is still fairly managable, so I understand that an experienced player will rate the scenario as easier.

Nice scenario. I'd probably rate it as easy to moderate, rather than challenging
