Umbral Spark features a complete particle overhaul for Dazzle, changing the visuals of every single one of his abilities including a projectile and a staff glow. This overhaul was created in collaboration with Konras and is supposed to go with his High-Priest of Dezun set. The overall theme of these particles centers around the darker, more shadowy nature of Dazzle's magic as well as the dualistic aspects of light and darkness. Keep in mind that even though most of the following effects might look complex or CPU-intensive the particle count of every single one Umbral Spark's abilities is actually lower than that of the default effects.

As the scepter of the high-priest of Dezun has always been considered a token of authority and power Dazzle evoked a single mote of the Nothl realm's essence representing his own unparalleled mastery of light and darkness. The Scepter of Duality ever since represents the shifting nature of these opposing aspects, switching periodically between its two phases: a bright flame casts light on Dazzle's path while the light prevails, only to be quelled as the shadows emerge. And as after a long period of darkness the first motes of light spark again the circle repeats itself...


Being the only ability that doesn't fit Dazzle's overall ability colour scheme Poison Touch now features a more spikey, aggressive and organic appearance.


Shallow Grave now sports significantly darker visuals, aiming for a look more accurately representing the power of this game-changing blessing while maintaining the gameplay-wise extremely important core features of the buff. To that end the descending ring illustrating the remaining duration of Shallow Grave has been repurposed to a transparent, slowly lowering shield, representing the diminishing protection this spell offers. The overall darker, more mystic tone of this buff is inspired by my own interpretation of how a spell tapping into the dark, twisted energies of the Nothl Realm might look like.


Have you also ever wondered why Shadow Wave was among the brightest abilities in the game? Following the generally darker theme of Umbral Spark Dazzle's healing ability was reworked to feature a significantly darker, more shadowy tone.


Umbral Spark's Weave is an effect befitting the apex of a true Shadow Priest's power: opening a portal to the Nothl Realm to cast this spell, Dazzle actually weaves a pattern of light and darkness on the ground, loosely centered around a yin-yang theme. The spell unfolds as both the light and dark aspects of this pattern fuse in its center.
