Description
Artificer's Mario Badges

Artificer's Mario Badges is an offical add-on for Artificer's Accessories.
HOWEVER, you can play this mod without Artificer's Accessories; only some of this mod's content requires it! Playing without Artificer's Accessories will simpily disable the content that depends on it.
That said, it is still highly recommended you play with Artificer's Accessories so you can enjoy all of this mod's content to its fullest!

This is a content mod centered around adding the iconic Badges from the Paper Mario series to Terraria. This mod distinguishes itself from others of a similar premise by offering the following features;
  • Includes ALL unique Badges from both Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Excluding Partner (P) variants from TYD)
  • Various badges' effects have been implemented as activiated, special abilities/attacks via. Artificer's Accessories cross-content
  • Loads of bonus content (See below for more details)

Badges:
  • All 97* Badges from Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door have been implemented into Terraria as accessories
  • Badges' effects have been re-imagined to cohere to Terraria's accessory system and balancing, whilst still taking inspiration from Paper Mario's original designs
  • Badges' sprites have been adapted to fit in with Terraria's artstyle. This is most noticible on TYD Badges, whose original sprites are much higher resolution
*Excludes Partner (P) variants from TYD, but includes Nostalgic Tunes and Gold Medal from TYD 2024

Artificer cross-content:
  • 27 Badges, plus multiple non-badge items, have been implemented as Ability Accessories
  • 'Ability Accessories' have few to no passive benefits, but grant a unique, activated ability with a cooldown
  • With this implementation, you'll be able to use some special attacks inspired by Paper Mario's own moves!
Remember, you must play with Artificer's Accessories to access this content; it is optional, but highly recommended you do so, as it is the intended experience!

Bonus Content:
  • 17 unobtainable/unimplemented Badges from Paper Mario and 2 from TYD have been brought to life with custom implementations!
  • Some content from Super Mario Bros. Wonder, including all 24 of its Badges and over a dozen Wonder Flower accessories based on Wonder effects
  • With the above additions, there is a grand total of 140 Badges to collect in the mod!
  • Non-badge homage content inspired by (Some, but not all) Partners, Bosses, and Star Spirits/Crystal Stars from Paper Mario and TYD
  • Extra homage items based on content from Super Mario RPG (and its 2023 remake) and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
  • Multiple variants/recolors of the Plumber's Set using power-up and Luigi inspired color schemes
  • A 'secret' set bonus for the Plumber's Set (and variants) that - when equipped as armor - gives you extra accessory slots exclusively for Badges
  • And more!

Open Source and Unofficial Add-Ons:
  • This mod is open-source under the GNU GPLv3 license. • You can access the source-code using tML's extract function (Found in-game on the mod's More Info page in your Mods List).
  • For modders looking to make their own add-on(s) for Artificer's Accessories, this is an excellent resource! This add-on in particular showcases Artificer's Accessories's Mod.Call functions, and disabling dependent content to allow loading without Artificer's Accessories.
  • Also know that unofficial add-ons are welcome!

Just released a patch making all Charge-related badges only load with Artificer's Accessories active. Lemme know if that helps!

@Snaxa~❤, just looked into this, and I think I know what's wrong. Smash Charge is shimmered from Power Smash. Power Smash is implemented as an Ability Accessory, and as such will NOT load into the game if you don't have Artificer's Accessories.
So, I bet if you try running Aether's Blessing and Artificer's Mario Badges WITHOUT Artificer's Accessories, you get problems because Aether's Blessing is trying to make recipes with unloaded items.
If you don't have Artificer's Accessories active, that should be a solution (in theory). That said, I'll make a patch that makes any items that shimmer from Artificer-only items also not load without Artificer's Accessories.

Weirdly seems to conflict with your other mod Aethers blessing. i am currently playing with ALOT of mods so i 100% understand it could potentially be one of them that maybe could cause this however i disabled most of them and tried activating them both and i still got the error. looking at it, it says "ShimmerQoL" added or modified a recipe to be in an invalid state
Reason: an ingredient had a stack size of zero or less
And the problem recipe seems to be Smash charge

@Aigis, as someone who does care about vanilla balance, I have been opposed to the idea of a standalone BP system that stacks with the accessory system, as mentioned in my first response to Admiya.
That said, I also value the concept of player choice; letting the player play how they choose. Alot of people have asked about a BP system, so I'll consider looking into it at this point.
Fargo's Paper Mario mod already has a BP system, so my preference would be to introduce support for Fargo's mod and allow this mod's badges to go in the Fargo BP slots.
I'm not sure how/if that is possible though, AFAIK Fargo's mod has no associated Calls for such functionality, and to all intents and purposes it appears (judging by update frequency) Fargo hasn't touched the mod in months, so I'm doubtful if it will even receive any further development.
In the meantime, you could use mods which grant extra slots for free (Cheat Sheet, etc.) and use those as mock BP slots.

this is an amazing mod. however an optional bp system would make it much better. the challenge of them taking up accesory slots and having to sacrifice good armor for more is a good idea to help balence it, but as someone who doesent care about balance and wanted to have fun with my funny paper merio badges i was a bit dissapointed. but other than that this is a great mod.

@Admiya, have you tried out the special set bonuses added by this mod? If you equip the Plumber's Set (the vanity set) or any of its variants (added by this mod) in the ARMOR slots instead of vanity, you'll get a bunch of extra accessory slots that only badges can go in. This'll offer a unique challenge in which you sacrifice conventional armor for those extra badge slots that'll let you make powerful builds with badges.

It's pretty interesting still, just gets kinda difficult to find a slot for said accesories at times, specially when playing with a bunch of mods. Do you think it could be possible to maybe add an optional addon to convert them to the Fargo BP system? That was people that don't really mind balance too much can get it and experiment, but those that prefer balance can use the base version here
BlockCrusader  [author] 28 Aug @ 8:51am
@Adamiya, yeah I intentionally went with making badges accessories instead of giving them their own BP system since Fargo had already done the latter, and also to make this mod more coherent with vanilla balancing by reworking badges into the accessory system (As opposed to them having their own system, which effectively just gives players more power for free).
Adamiya 28 Aug @ 7:55am
I actually thought this mod would actually work similarly to fargo's mario badges, so it could be an interesting addon, it's still pretty cool, but not quite what i expected
