While the teething issues related to the MT-8 were still being resolved, the idea was brought up to utilize existing hulls with the already reliable MT-4-type Turret (now present on the DT-1, MT-10, and MT-9) to make use of the existing hulls.

As a result, the MT-9 represents a fusion of the armor of the MT-8, and the reliability and maintenance of the MT-10.
