The shambler horde approaches!

This mod adds a shambler faction and scenarios. One may be used without the other. I felt like a shambler faction might make it interact with storytellers in a more interesting way. If you wanted a shambler apocalypse with no other factions, or a zombie wave defense with the Winston Waves storyteller, or simply pockets of concentrated shamblers, for instance.

While there are other zombie mods, I just wanted a simple shambler horde mod that was integrated with the features of the Anomaly DLC.

Deathpallcalypse scenario:
The planet was buried in darkness half a quadrum ago. Our colony had been besieged by the undead ever since. We put up a good fight, until their numbers grew too great and overtook our defenses. Three of us managed to escape during the onslaught, abandoning our home and regretfully sacrificing those who remained. We are being chased.

This scenario has perpetual deathpall, and frequently calls forth shamblers.

Note: This is my first RimWorld mod, so there's a bit of an odd interaction when using the faction - they can kidnap or possibly steal your stuff like normal factions might. I haven't figured out how to change that. Might be a bit immersion breaking.

The mod is likely unbalanced, that might be subjective though.

F.A.Q.

Q: Does this mod allow for a medieval playthrough?
A: It seems to work with Medieval Overhaul. In a quick test, I saw one zombie out of dozens wearing flak pants, the rest were wearing tribal clothing. Your mileage may vary. I have not made any changes to the shamblers themselves, so if a mod makes them medieval only, then it should be compatible.

For those who are annoyed with the BeepBoop notification sound from resurrection messages, https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2901941345&searchtext=individual+sound try this mod out and look for "message_NegativeEvent" lower the slider or mute entirely, this affects every negative beepboop sounds in the game, so just treat it as a temporary fix.

get error on start up with this mod saying too many incidents within time? maybe conflicting with faction war mod?

Or is the faction invisible? and only appear after the world creation?

Something I'm noticing on the secondary scenario, the one without a permanent death pall, is that the majority of my "raids" - and indeed the majority of my events - are shamblers wandering in but not actually attacking. It's trivial to avoid them until they collapse so it's the equivalent of just not getting an event, except that it occasionally gifts me with shards when they fall apart. Not sure if there's a way to tune this so that the "wandering" event is less common or removed outright, but if it's possible, I'd suggest it.

only problem of this mod is that every time shambler revives from deathpall, annoying messages pop up on the left corner. On vanilla gameplay, that doesn't matter much because Deathpalls doesn't last so long. But on the scenario, it lasts forever.

you tuned the scenario to hit that just-one-more-hour sweet spot. thank you! the shambler faction is fantastic, and I actually enjoy the "some will kidnap or break stuff: mechanic. its like the occasional improbably "clever" zombie that moves the plot along in a horror story. we enjoy it because if the zombies never bite anyone or get into the mall/prison/whatever, its a bit of an uneventful movie, no? a zombie squad lunging out of the hordes that surround your tribal base and leaving with one of your people is a startling experience (I have since discovered), but it adds to the horror aesthetic!

I started a scenario and the dead just wont rise. I get a notification and i see the animation but nothing happens. Is it a feature like they rise only if x days have pased or is it just not working?

Do you know if there is a way to make it so that death pall doesn't block weather? I know someone did it for unnatural darkness.
