Description

Design:
Flying alongside such famous planes as the spitfire and hurricane in the battle of Britain, was the Boulton Paul Defiant. A plane designed to intercept the waves of unescorted bombers that would plague the UK during the blitz, the Defiant was unique in it's armament layout. The rear mounted turret allowed the aircraft to attack the enemy from below, the weakest point in a bomber's defence, whilst also providing an adequate field of fire for the interceptor to defend itself.

History:

First serving with No.264 squadron, the Defiant saw success in the air, it's similar shape to the hurricane luring German fighter squadrons to dive at them, only to be met by the fury of dozens of .303 browning machine guns. Further, they saw great success in interception missions, with 264 squadron downing 19 stukas, and a ju 88 all in one day. The Defiant also helped to cover the evacuation at Dunkirk, where multiple aircraft engaged the same target, effectively saturating them with fire.

Guide:

Pilot:
  1. Press the button on the side of the cockpit to enter
  2. Throttle to 30% for taxi and then tap '3' to start the engine
  3. Taxi to the end of the runway, then when ready, set throttle to 50% for takeoff
  4. Once in the air, press 1&2 to raise the flaps and gear respectively, use trim to straighten any flight issues
  5. When engaging targets, remember to communicate with your gunner, and fly in straight lines to allow them to aim
Gunner:
  • Enter your turret by pressing either button on the side
  • Lock your turret until a target is spotted, either by you or the pilot
  • Once in a fight, ensure good communication with the pilot to keep the target in your field of fire
  • Inf ammo is recommended, however spare ammo is available behind your seat
  • Note that while in flight, hitting the tail is impossible, so there is no need to actively avoid it, however at low speeds or while grounded, beware

Settings:

Any physics detail is supported.

Inf ammo is recommended as reloading is a hastle, but not impossible.

If player damage is on, heating and oxygen masks are available for both crew members for high altitude flying.

Genesis Inc wishes you good luck in your upcoming battles and hopes that you enjoy this creation. Don't forget to check out the mk.ii night fighter variant, but most importantly:

I am aware that the engine is by no means fuel efficient, hence the suggestion on the throttle lever to cruise at 50%. The reason for the high rps is to emulate the speed of the actual Boulton Paul. Unfortunately, I don’t believe that it is possible to get any more speed out of that engine, meaning that the top speed still falls 70mph short, but in dives or flying with the wind it is possible to reach the required speed of 300 mph. To reduce noise, I suggest flying at a lower throttle setting, and if fuel usage is a problem, turn on inf fuel.

It is not bad as a starting vehicle, but please gear your engine next time, no ones wants to hear an angry lawnmower during the whole time.
Try to aim for 20 ish RPS since this is where you get the most torque out of your engine (since you are using prefab engines, 8 RPS is usually the ideal for fuel consumption).

Thank you! I'm not aware of any issues turning right. If you have any more information let me know!

I was about to say, I am a plane nerd, and seeing an underappreciated aircraft such as this one just made my day! Excellent work!

The EMG escape stands for emergency escape. It's just a little feature i included after getting stuck in the cockpit after a crash. All it does is shoot a gun straight at the track that holds the sliding canopy in place, forcing it to unlock, and allowing you to leave if the button breaks.

What is the 'EMG' function? I pressed it, some smoke popped up, then the plane became uncontrollable
