Description
WHAT IT DOES

It adds two versions of a european two-hander sword, circa 15'th-16'th century, called a "Zweihaender". (Or in Scotland it would be called a Claymore.)

Unlike modern games which call everything a "two-hander" if it can be used with both hands, historically most such were called a "long sword" and allowed a combination of one and two hand techniques. To be called a Zweihaender (two-hander) or Bidenhaender (both-hander), it had to be a sword of such size that it actually needed both hands on the hilt, full time. It is the final evolution of the longsword as a weapon of war.

Historically, mercenaries certified in the use of the two-hander received twice the pay of a normal mercenary and were called "doppelsöldner" (i.e., double mercenary, though more in the meaning of "double paid".) On one hand this reflected the increased risk to self, but that people were actually paying that high price tends to indicate that it was worth that.

In game the weapon has the same speed and base damage as the skyforged steel greatsword, but it has greater range (which was the whole reason such weapons existed), higher chance to stagger (due to sheer momentum), and twice the chance to crit. It also gets a hefty bonus to backstab damage, IF you took the stealth perks that give you extra stealth damage with a dagger.

It has a 55 inch long blade, with a width of about 2 inches and an 8 inch unsharpened ricasso which can be used to grab the blade and use the weapon as a short spear. These values are calculated assuming that the average human in the game is about 5'10" tall, i.e., pretty much the same as an adult human male nowadays.

It can be crafted with steel, just like a normal steel greatsword, but you'll need more steel ingots for the bigger blade.

It does not have a scabbard, since these weapons were historically not carried in sheaths. They were carried with the ricasso on the shoulder, like a polearm.

The versions are:

1. The Straight Zweihänder, probably the most common variant of this weapon.

2. The Flambard Zweihänder which, as the name says, it has a flambard or "flame" blade. It's wavy, basically. It was also relatively common, though more labour intensive to make and thus more expensive, so not every mercenary had one. It's still debated exactly how the wavy edge was supposed to be better, but lots of swords were made like that.

HOW TO GET IT

Craft them. It only needs steel smithing, after all.

Or just type "help zweihaender" (without the quotes) in the console, and then use "player.additem xxxxxxxx 1" (ditto), where xxxxxxxx is the item id the previous command showed you for whichever variant you want. And you'll just get one in your inventory.

HOW TO INSTALL IT

For the Steam version, just subscribe it on Steam and let Steam do the rest.

HOW TO UNINSTALL IT

For the Steam version, just unsubscribe it on Steam and let Steam do the rest.

CONFLICTS

It shouldn't conflict with anything.

ye zweihänder (zweihaender) is german for greatsword or two-handed sword and if you translate it 1:1 it is called twohander

Time to make swords great again. I've added another blade model, with the "parrying hooks".

“The Monks of Cool, whose tiny and exclusive monastery is hidden in a really cool and laid-back valley in the lower Ramtops, have a passing-out test for a novice. He is taken into a room full of all types of clothing and asked: Yo, my son, which of these is the most stylish thing to wear? And the correct answer is: Hey, whatever I select.” ― Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies

So yeah, I find that a good long piece of sharpened quality steel goes well with any outfit ;)

Well... if you want to get all history nerd about what goes with what, this one is more like early 16'th century than medieval, hence my preference for the Witcher 2 outfits to go with it. Properly high-medieval would be more like the types XIIa and XIIIa from my Arming Swords collection. (Well, it was supposed to be arming swords originally, but it has a couple of longswords like the aforementioned XIIa and XIIIa too.)

But it still goes well with any outfit anyway :p

this would go well with the Medieval Armoury mod

Well... it kinda evolved over time, actually, and it varied a lot over space. Early ones almost invariably had neither, nor generally did the claymores in Scotland. Then the ricasso appears, and the side projections appear even later. In any case, there are plenty of museum examples without the extra lugs on the blade.

Well, in any case, this one does have about 8 inches worth of ricasso, not the least because I wanted to use the model in NV too and the way their parry animation works in third person. The character actually grabs the ricasso, and generally the animation looks kinda like he's parrying a murder stroke.

What it doesn't have is the parrying hooks in front of the ricasso, so gauntlets may be a good idea :p

I might make a model with those parrying hooks too at some point, though, since they seem pretty popular with the players.

Here's a slight historical nit-pick about your greatsword. Since Greatswords were actually too long to be used as traditional swords, they functioned in use more like pole-weapons, like halberds or spears. For this reason, there needs to be a ricasso with a 2nd pair of quilons (Spell check) to protect the hand that grasps the ricasso. Otherwise it's very historically accurate.

I've never rigged armour before, so probably not any time soon.
