Sybil - The Dreamwalker (Pseudoregalia)

Description
This project currently features 80 different cards as well as 12 unique relics. There are 10 different fully animated player-skins, too! The Dreamwalker's core mechanic relies on collecting "Magical Power" by mainly attacking and using card/relic-interactions to gather more of this valuable resource.

Reaching certain MP-milestones also unlocks special buffs for her which grant her more draw-power as well as an additional point of energy each turn!



Please bear in mind: this is my very first Steam mod, infact it's also the first time I ever worked with Java to create something for this game. I might update this project to enhance/refine it further as I learn more things. The project as a whole took me a total of 7 weeks to create.

Credit for helping me with implementing many of these cool things goes to the supportive people at the official StS server hanging out in the #modding-technical channel.

Credit for the character (Sybil) and her referenced game (Pseudoregalia) goes to rittzer, you definitely should check out the source-material if you happen to like what you're seeing!

Credit for the "beta" card-artwork goes to "cuboid consumer" and "Teh Quiper". This is an ongoing effort so expect more updates!


Latest update (1.0.81):
You can now disable the custom music (which usually plays after hitting your powerspike) by clicking on "mods" and "config" on the title-screen!

All changes are reflected within the preview images.

@Zeodexic - 60 GB sounds craaazy. I am familiar with RAM issues which is why I recommended the RAM Saver among the dependencies but the number you encountered is definitely a new record.

i ran into some insane memory allocation issues from running this mod (60+gb at end of a run). wasnt able to pin down why with a profiler

Thanks for the mod, I really enjoyed it!
One suggestion I'd like to make is adding the option to enable or disable the 30 MP music.
As much as I love the Empty Bailey theme, I don't want it to override the music mod I also got going.

@NyxKerrigan - I will have to contemplate, the ability to recycle cards from the exhaust pile is quite strong. The discard relic idea might be interesting, though.

Probably my favorite character right now. She almost feels a little too strong with how tanky she can get, but I'm not complaining.

One, thank you for explaining the thought process

My idea with outfits was something I borrowed from the Shadow verse characters, one of them can have up to 5 "amulets" (power of 1 type) equipped at a time. one Idea is that you can have up to # outfits at a time and playing another one would get rid of the first one played. This would allow individual outfits to be more Powerful and a design space for cards that care about the number of outfits currently equipped.

With how much exhaust support there is, some exhaust retrieval might be interesting so you could get back some of the cards.

other "balance" things that may or may-not be good ideas.
Allow the discard relics (from silent) and the exhaust relics (from ironclad)/ make slightly weaker or stronger versions for her

Just some more thoughts from someone who doesn't know heads or tails of game design. so don't change anything on my account but putting for ideas you may not have thought of.

@NyxKerrigan - Leg Day might get its upgraded cost reverted from 2 to 3, so it'd stay expensive to use. I might turn it into an Ethereal card as well.

Outfits are meant to be free to use cards which offer very small bonuses, stacking them might seem op but the more you have the bigger the risk is that you clog up your hand on crucial turns without any way to immediately block an attack for instance. Maybe their cost could increase with every further copy of one being played?

Magical Power as a mechanic is meant to snowball out of control but the challenge is to make it to that point, Sybil has to find a way to defend herself while managing her MP so that she may hit both milestones (16 & 30 MP) to turn the tables.

Love the style feels great to play
below are some "nerfs" you might want to look at.
Leg day feels very OP recommend reworking. to maybe being the first # of kicks be free (would allow for more space in the kick area as well)
Outfits Probably should be 1 cost or maybe have them act like orbs so you can only have a number of them on.
The damage scaling of Magic feels very strong. (an idea would be to have it give vigor on first attack per turn or lower the scaling)
