N/V Convivia | 55 Meter Nuclear Research Vessel

Description
N/V Convivia - 55 Meter Nuclear Research Vessel & Cruise Ship

History
- fictional, all dates in SW time

An unexpected new project

As the 90s drew to a close, Neatica was offered an interesting new project by the government. The ambitious new vessel would be a medium sized nuclear Arctic research vessel. The fact that the ship was going to sail the icy northern seas made Neatica and its Neatyards subsidiary a logical pick, thanks to their experience with ships sailing to and from the Arctic, they were always among the best at reinforced hulls and ships built for the cold conditions of the Arctic. But they weren't the perfect pick - at that time, they were incredibly busy with other vessels. Either way though, Neatica took the initiative and decided to begin the project. And soon, in January of 2001, the vessel's keel was laid. In just 2 years, the cruise ship launched and a few months later, she was finished.

As a career begins

After the ship was finished and crew training was done as well, the ship's career officially began with a Terminal Spycakes to Tajin route. But this wouldn't be the ship's fixed route. For most of its career the ship would stay in the North. This would make it special, since most of the other ships seen in the Arctic were only performing routes to/from the South mainland, while Convivia mostly went around the various Arctic islands and bases, serving the researchers and people living there. The ship's intricate interiors, comfortable cabins, happy crew and the places it would travel to made it very popular among the Arctic population. The ship was somewhat of a household name. In the company, while it may have been overshadowed by the larger vessels, the ship was still known quite well for her crews completely loving her. She was a small, yet very successful ship.

Proving a vital asset

With the most of the ship's journeys taking place in the harsh Arctic, it's only logical she was built for it. What is unusual about the vessel though, is that the designers went a bit overboard with all the hull reinforcements and other things needed for safe voyages in the North. The ship would prove incredibly important in emergency situations, thanks to its speed, it could be on scene earlier than most other vessels, and thanks to its design, it could reach places no other ships could. This would all pay off in 2016, when the ship saved most of the occupants of a rapidly sinking M/F Star of Olsen.

Back to its former glory

At the end of 2024, it was beginning to be apparent that the ship would need a refit. While most of the important parts were fine, just like in 2001, the reactor was slowly losing fuel. Due to this, Neatica management decided to give the vessel a thorough refit. As Neatica expected, this brought the ship's success back up to high levels. Though not as popular as at the beginning, the ship still remains among the best ways to sail across the stormy Arctic seas to this day.

Incidents and Accidents

2008, Jul. 6th. - Collision with iceberg - slight scraping on bow: repaired at sea

2011, Nov. 29th. - Small fire in a cabin, later determined to be arson - repaired at a dock

2016, Feb. 15th. - Led the rescue effort during the sinking of M/F Star of Olsen

2024, Jan. 2nd. - Helped rescue a tanker trapped in ice

Sinking
  1. Go to helm
  2. Press key 6
  3. Go to cargo deck
  4. Access door in the aft part of the cargo deck
  5. Select desired sinking
OR
  1. Wait for it to sink by itself, should take about 190 minutes in calm conditions
This is done using DDS (Dynamic Damage System), this system is a timer, that, when it reaches 0, it makes something fail. The timer runs out faster when the ship is in adverse conditions. A fault can be fixed using a fix button near it. Sinking features can be turned off fully by turning Disable Dynamic Damage System ON on the bridge.

What temp do you have selected? It also doesn't work too well in the Arctic, there is no reason for it not to, but it just doesn't

So... the heating just stops working after getting the reactor online. Nothing. Zero. It just sits at some random ass temperature and doesn't listen. Might not be correct as I am typing from what I remember. Thanks for telling me about the standby power.

Standby power is only for emergencies, I wouldn't recommend using any lights with it.

Also, could you elaborate further on the heating thing?
