Description
More Covert Action Slots

Abstract
Blanket increases the number of soldier slots on all covert actions to a minimum of three.

Overview
The main goal of this mod is to make CI ambushes more fair. Ambushes in Covert Infiltrations are ok to deal with, when a player has a squad of three soldiers, but may be kind of hard when the player only has a squad of two soldiers. As a result this mod was created - to blanket increase, on all covert actions, the number of soldier slots to three, so that if that covert action IS ambushed, the player will have better fighting chances.

The result is that the player will be slgithly more drained on manpower, seeing how they need to send more soldiers per covert action. But more soldiers gain experience from one covert action. So who knows what's good?

Configuration
In XComGame one can find the configuration.
  • Of course, the number "three" can be taken to infinity.
  • The player may exclude certain covert actions from getting this treatment. By default, this only applies to Iridar's Bounty Hunter training covert action.
  • The player may specify which covert action slots needs to be counted. The author has specified all of those he is aware to, but maybe he missed some. Maybe some player will decide that some slots should not count.
  • Ignore or exclude faction soldiers: most of the time faction-only slots are optional, but this mod will still count them as a soldier you can deploy on this covert action. The setting is true by default, which means that faction-only slots will not count as a soldier slot. So if a covert action requires two soldiers and an optional faction soldier, this mod will add one more soldier slot to it, so it will require three soldier slots, and one optional faction slot.
  • Optionality of new slots: by default, if a covert action slot is optional, the game allows it to counter one risk on the covert action. So by default, the new slot is NOT optional, or the game would be too easy. This can be turned off.
  • In addition, if you want some CERTAIN list of covert actions to have the opposite behavior, then they can be specified (so on all covert actions the new slot is not optional, except for covert action A on which the new slot WILL be optional).
  • Finally there is a list of ambush-like missions, which will be edited to know that they should look perhaps for more than three soldiers to populate. This should not be something that the average reader needs to touch.

Compatibility
Compatibility with Covert Action Config - ???? Covert Action Configs allows you to manually configure each covert action. This mod only edits the number of slots, but does it in a blanket way, so both mods can co-exist. I've set this mod to run after Covert Action Config, so it'll override the number of slots, but should keep all other behavior.
Compatible with my officer mod, since it adds new covert action slots. Mods that add new covert action slots will have to be configured manually. Let me know if there are some I'm missing.

Required Mods
Covert Infiltration is not technically required, but if the reader goes too crazy with the number of slots on covert actions, then the base game UI will not support more than four deployable soldiers. With Covert Infiltration, this limitation is removed.

Known Issues
Behavior in an ongoing campaign is untested. Use it at your own risk.

Good Mod Lordabizi and I agree CI ambushes are a pain with two people. I had to cheese them, If I ever get back to playing CI this mod is a must.

There are other mods that address this issue (Resistance Ring+, Covert Infiltration), so I do not intend to add this functionality to my mod.

Can you make one that has multiple covert actions at the same time? I was super bummed that after fully upgrading my resistance ring I still could only do one.

I don't think Resistance Ring+ adds new covert action slots for soldiers, so as far as I can tell, it should work fine.

is it compatible with Resistace Ring+ ? +

I have noted it down, but I don't know if I'll have the time to address this in the near future.

Feature Request(s):

Ability to group CA's by type (Personell, Items, Ability Bonuses, etc).
Ability to set TargetSoldierCovertActionNumber by groups mentioned above.

Would allow for batching to increase number for 'some' CA's, and increase number exponentially for 'certain abominable CA's' for... thematic reasons....

This mod was an excellent idea. Makes ambushes less brutal
