Introduction
This guide is a work in progress as is Enshrouded itself. Developers are constantly working to evolve a balanced progression system and with the latest Hollow Halls update there will likely be changes to existing experience rewards as well as opportunities for new ones. Welcome flame-born!
Skill Points
One of the most rewarding experiences in Enshrouded is gaining skill points that can be used to unlock new items in the skill tree and there are 3 incremental means of doing so:
  • Clearing an Elixer Well (3 skill points)
  • Gaining a new character level (2 skill points)
  • Clearing a standalone Shroud Root (1 skill point)
There are 114 skill points currently available in the game and these are apportioned by the above:
  • 14 Elixer Wells (42 skill points total)
  • 24 character level promotions (48 skill points total)
  • 24 standalone Shroud Roots (24 skill points total)
Elixer Wells and Shroud Roots are uncovered by exploration, typically by climbing to the top of an Ancient Spire or finding an Ancient Obelisk and getting locations highlighted on a map. But promoting character level is done by gaining experience points.
Experience Points
When a player first emerges from the cinder vault, they have 0 experience points (XP) and 0 skill points. By looking at attribute details in the character inventory, the player can learn how many XP are needed for the next promotion level with level 2 requiring 250 XP. Level 3 then rockets forward to needing 3568 XP. Every level after that increments by either 28 for even numbered levels or 29 for odd numbered levels until reaching level 25. Upon reaching level 25 no activity of the player will add XP.

There are 3 means of increasing XP:
  • Exploration, including mission rewards
  • Mining
  • Combat Victories

Exploration includes, but is not limited to, the following

  • Scrolls (10)
  • Flame Shrines and Shroud Roots (25)
  • Mission Waypoints (100)
  • Hollow Halls (100)
  • New Site Discoveries (150)
  • Ancient Obelisks (200)
  • Elixer Wells (250)
  • Flame Sanctums and Sun Temples (300)
  • Crafting Vaults (400)
  • Ancient Spires (500)

Mining includes the following
  • Salt, Flint and Fossilized Bone (7)
  • Clay (8)
  • Copper (9)
  • Tin, Iron, Sulfur, Lapis Lazuli and Amber (10)
  • Obsidian

Combat uses a balancing factor of %10 for each level difference between the player and the opponent.

If the player is level 3 and defeats a level 3 scavenger then the XP is 50. If the player is level 2 and defeats a level 3 scavenger then the XP is 55. If the player is level 4 and defeats a level 3 scavenger then the XP is 45. This continues through the game progression to insure that the risk/reward is balanced. This then leads to a simple compilation of baseline XP when the two parties are equal:
