NS Pocahontas Division

Welcome to the Norfolk Southern Pocahontas Division! Take on the role as a Dispatcher of over 100 miles of the former Norfolk & Western’s coal fields in southern West Virginia. You’ll be taking over on a fairly calm night shift to ease you into some of the basic operations that would typically be seen on this territory. You’ll be in charge of getting 35 individual trains to and from their destinations.

To aid in your operations, the route begins in Bluefield, WV (top right of map) and works its way from east to west (right to left) until you reach Williamson, WV (bottom left). Typically, at least during my tenure, dispatchers would run westbound trains along Main 2 (north track), and eastbound trains on Main 1 (south track). This however was not a requirement and could drastically change due to a magnitude of different reasons.

I did my best to recreate this as accurately as possible, including CP (Control Points) and named AS (Automatic Signals) locations along the route, and train symbols, from my knowledge as a former conductor familiar with this division. I’ve tested, and tested, and tested some more, this map to hopefully ensure a smooth operation.
