Description
Have you ever thought about how quests just appear out of the blue in Rimworld? Have you ever wondered why you can't get a quest straight from a faction's base? Have you ever wanted to have a nomadic play-through, but get frustrated that quests are focused on your base, not the caravan?

Then this mod is for you!!

This mod adds a button to ask for quests in settlements, simply click on it whilst your caravan is visiting the settlement for a chance to generate a quest.

Note that there is a chance that you could fail to find a quest; maybe your character insults the town's leader, maybe you get into a bar fight with one of the locals or maybe the town is closed for a large-scale festival and you decide to enjoy the festivities instead. Who knows!


Notes and Recommendations

  • There have been cases of the mod not working as intended if installing mid save. If you are having issues mid save with this mod, I would suggest trying out a new save to see if that makes a difference.

  • Please note that due to base game limitations, most quests require an active map to be able to generate (For nomadic play-throughs I suggest using a small map, or mod for custom map size and then just leaving it).

  • When generating a quest through the mods button, it can cause temporary lag - this is normal, and the only way to make sure the quest is from the right faction and uses your caravan as a reference, rather than your base.

  • This does not stop quests from generating normally. For that, I would suggest 'No Quests Without Comms; https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2136753617

  • I also recommend 'Caravan Activities Framework' https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3056702430 as it works well with this mod. Just keep in mind that when you accept an activity with this mod, you cannot search for a quest until the activity has been completed.

    Known Bugs
    When caravanning with some modded vehicles, when asking for quests it will generate two quests instead of one, and is much more likely to generate a 'failed to find quest' response. I am looking into this and hope to find a fix.

    Some Humanoid Alien Races mods ([Alien/Race] Seren, from Stardust currently know) can cause an error during the 'Fight' quest failure. This is a one off error which shouldn't cause further issues though.

@Micillia Yes, I don't think vehicle caravanning works with this mod very well. I am currently looking into a fix

Ive noticed it fails to generate a quest when i arrive at a settlement via a carryall, but if i arrive next to the settlement and then walk in the quest appears. Thank you for making this mod <3 i love it

You're welcome! Though I think that mod in particular just has issues rather than being an incompatibility between your mod and it.

So, I think I figured out the issue I was having with not getting Quests prior when visiting a settlement, I took out Roads of the Rim (continued) from my modlist and started up a simple game to test and the quest generated just fine. So I think it's a compatibility error with that mod and I think it adds some quests that don't properly work? Either way Looking forward to having this mod work properly going forward! I never even really got around to making roads proper when I get to it anyhow, so I guess it's not that big of a problem for me to remove it.

vehicle mod is constantly changing

So after playing with the mod, and trying to find a source for the repeated errors, it seems like the mod does not like Vehicle Caravans. Sometimes it works, and generates two quests at once (presuming it sees vehicles as one caravan and pawns as another) but it seems like most of the time it will fail to find quests if in a vehicle. I am not sure if this is due to a recent change or not, as it worked previously with vehicles, but whatever the case, it is not working as intended now.

I am not sure how to fix this with my limited coding knowledge, so I will have to seek answers elsewhere.

Yes, it is a shame about the quest rewards. Unfortunately that seems to be fundamental to the quest coding, so without changing the core games code, I am not sure if that is possible. I found reducing map size, and then abandoning and resettling nearby to towns (basically a make shift version of the camping mod) allows for quest rewards to be dropped nearby your caravan at least.

@IslandPotato I figured it out thankyou & it is a shame the quest rewards only go the settlement and not to the nomad party. but thanks for series , it has really helped me out mentally I'm really enjoying the content :)
