Solid Fuel Thrusters

Description
These are big boy thrusters designed to get you off planet, or out of trouble quickly. Large and small grid versions, 3x3x4 (long) in both cases.

Using explosives for fuel, they don't need any power to operate but once you light them, they're lit! You'll get 15MN thrust from a large grid one and 3MN from a small grid one, and they burn out in around 60s. You can of course refuel them by replacing the explosives (weld 'em up, careful where you point the flame.)

You can ignite these by clicking on the "Ignite" button in the menu, or with a Programmable Block by setting block.Enabled = true. Make sure you're clear ahead before you hit it! and I wouldn't stand too near the exhaust.

I'm super rusty on the modelling so I used the "SAT04 Solid Fuel Rocket Booster" (https://skfb.ly/ovwVu) by Hodisfut as a base (licensed under Creative Commons Attribution.) Thanks for sharing this freely!

any way to make it so the more explosives you have welded in will increase the burn time? so we can customize burn time by simply changing the ammount of explosives we weld in?

So I put the booster on a ship, ignite it, and then nothing happens, then the thing explodes.

Not convinced...

Never thought I'd see the RT-5 "Flea" here. of all places.

Thanks for questions and comments. Yes Dlrium they'll go hard for about a minute then they're done, repair with explosives and you're set to go again. Anarch I put PCU at 50 based on the high thrust output and the fact they're not really a regular-use item but more a specific-use tool, e.g. a booster to help get off high G planets. In theory you shouldn't need too many of them on a ship. Happy to take feedback, does anyone else think PCU should come down?

Interesting. I like that it works a big different then the one for electrochemical thrusters and the appearance matches the niche, but these seem to have a very high PCU cost for a thruster. Pretty much my only complaint.

so these light and they run until they burn out?

Hi g, yes there are both large and small grid versions in there which you've probably already noticed. I'll amend description to clarify.

Also just before I fell asleep last night I thought, hey these are thrusters and will probably just work using WASD rather than ignition, and therefore not burn the explosives making them an infinite use, high thrust, zero power engine, which wasn't the intent. So I "fixed" it (sorry if you were zooming around freely with 'em.

I haven't opened these in game yet. Are there plans for a small grid version?
