Description
Hello and thank you for your interest in this mod!


Intro
This mod will add a chance encounter Black Market to your game, which sells Contraband in exchange for Tater Tokens. Tokens are earned by simply playing the game and are saved between runs. Contraband will not be cluttering the regular shop's pool, but will only be available at the market.
Please be aware this was created with longevity in mind, so don't be discouraged if you cannot afford a lot of the new stuff right away. Everything you'll obtain from the Market is a 100% upgrade compared to the base game, so I did have to be a little conservative in order for this to not be ridiculously OP when everything is unlocked.
Some of the Permanent Contraband will allow you to earn more Tokens and there's a few challenges to unlock that'll also help you along.
There'll most likely be updates in the future with more interesting Contraband, so start earning Tokens now. :)

Please see the details below to help you get started.



Details
  • After every wave, there's a chance (base = 5%) to encounter the Black market. Minimum of 500 Tokens is required.
  • Earn a new currency: Tater Tokens (thank you Exses for the suggestion!). Tokens will be saved between runs and can only be spent in the market
  • On winning a wave you earn Tokens, amount depends on difficulty and the wave number
  • On winning a run you get a bonus of Tokens, amount depends on difficulty
  • Current amount of Tokens will be visible at the end of a wave and ofcourse when at the market
  • Black Market is not available after wave 20 (but will still earn Tokens on winning waves)
  • Proceed to the regular shop after visiting the Black Market
  • Cannot sell anything back to the market
  • The cost of Contraband is static
  • The cost of Reroll (base = 180) will get cheaper every wave (-5) and doesn't change on rerolling
  • The challenge rewards are permanent and will be applied after the run in which you obtained it
  • The Black market waits for nobody! Resuming a game after leaving while in the Black market, will place you in the regular shop
  • Now includes the option to play Nightmare Mode. When enabled this will increase Tater tokens earned by +50% and new enemies will show up in your game: Champions and Mini-elites. More details are in the change notes of March 24.


  • The border color does not define rarity, it's a visual aid to differentiate the type:
    • White/Common: Primary stat points
    • Green/Uncommon: Wanted tags and some miscellaneous perks. Only 1 tag at a time can be shown in the shop and after buying a tag, all other tags are removed from the market
    • Purple/Rare: Challenge wave changes. Changes will only be visible after leaving the market (shown in regular shop)
    • Red/Legendary: Permanent boosts. Once bought, owned forever. After buying, their value increases (for some exponentially)


Calculation of Tokens earned
Per wave: (1 + difficulty) * current wave + bonus from perm upgrades
Per win: (40 + (difficulty * difficulty * 10)) * (1 + bonus from perm upgrades/100)

Some examples of total earnings when winning a run at wave 20:
D0 without perm. upgrades: 250
D0 with all perm. upgrades: 1290
D5 without perm. upgrades: 1550
D5 with all perm. upgrades: 2970

The contraband Ensnare might not work properly with DarkTwinge-BalanceMod



This mod was a little more complicated to make, so there could still be some bugs. Also this has not been tested with many mods. If you find any issues, please leave a comment in the Discussion thread BUGS. Thank you!

Hello Card-Holding LeMat SImp,
Hmm I'd say Promotion is one of the best upgrades to purchase as early as possible. If you have a look in the description at "Calculation of Tokens earned" you can see the difference it makes. With just 1 Promotion upgrade, you'd double your income per wave when you're playing on D0.

For the wanted tags here [brotato.wiki.spellsandguns.com] you can read what the tags do. To see if they're actually added to your character, you could install this mod to check it.

Also I have no way of proving it but I think Wanted: buffs are bugged, every time I buy one I go the entire round without seeing the stat I chose

Promotion definitely needs a buff. A single tater token per wave is absolutely nothing, you'd have to play hundreds upon hundreds of rounds even with it maxed to make it worth

I'm still working on releasing the new enemies from NM mode as separate mods, not sure when it'll be finished. Be aware they're not supposed to be installed together with this mod though.

Not really, just play the game. :)
You should be able to see purple tokens at the end of a wave. Once you saved up 500+ there's a chance (base=5%) that the market will show up. All the specifics/details are here in the description.
If you're not receiving any tokens, it might be there's an incompatibility with another mod. Please check the incompatibilities in the description.

is there anything in particular to do to have this mod starting? i only have this active and i can't see any difference from the normal game :(
