Pirate Ammo

Description
Pirate Ammo is a simple rebalancing of the NATO 25x184mm large gatling ammunition. (For now. The other ammo types will be added later.) The balance is for "Pirate Sectors" where little to zero asteroid resources exist and players must make use of materials acquired from captured ships, whether NPC cargo ships or other players.

The problem with such worlds is that magnesium is in extremely short supply because it is only ever used for ammunition. Pirate Ammo makes use of alternate materials that are much more readily available, while keeping the cost (slightly) higher to maintain its original balance.

- Requires about 1.5x the amount of iron.
- Requires about the same amount of nickel.
- Replaces magnesium requirement with platinum.
- Adds a tiny amount of uranium.
- Adds 2 seconds to construction time.
- Each ammo box contains almost twice the number of rounds.

Platinum was chosen because captured ships often have a number of thrusters that typically end up being unused, and the breakdown of the thruster components (80 each per large ship small thruster) provides a sizeable amount. Nickel is still used because the breakdown of battery blocks provides more than enough. Uranium was added for both "lore" and strategic value; it is such a small amount to be negligible but it cannot be ignored, and provides a "power source" for the ammunition.

If this balance proves to be workable after being tested for awhile, then the other ammunition types (missiles, small arms cartridges) will be similarly balanced and added to this mod.
----

Currently, Space Engineers doesn't seem to allow adding a brand new type of ammo that current weapons will recognize. So for now, Pirate 25x184mm ammo fully replaces the NATO 25x184mm cartridge.

(NOTE: This mod will not work alongside my "Heavy Iron Ammo" mod nor my "Quad-Sized 25x184 Gatling Ammo Boxes" mod, because they all modify the default ammo box. If more than one are loaded, then the game will choose only one to work.)

does it exist a mod that add Ammo variants?

Does this still work?

I would love to see the missiles come to this mod. This is the only one I know of that is reworking the ammunition to solve the Magnesium problem on small asteroid maps.

Great work!

because pistons = bombs

I don't see why guns in space engineers don't just piston launch a metal slug instead of having to make a fancy round. :P

portal turret use a piston system to fire a whole bullet.

U mean just download this weapon mod NATO 25x184mm.

@mothership: This ammo is a replacement for the NATO 25x184mm ammo. All weapons that used the original ammo will now use this ammo, if you use this mod.

What kinds of gun can fit this ammo?
Blizzy 6 Jan, 2015 @ 5:49am
Hawkeye its supposed to be a type of ammunition that can be manufactured in "harsher" envoirments from "second hand" ship dissassembly...

It has real world equivalence, called "improvised ammunition" often produced in extreme circumstances like the artic, in "gun nut" boasting fights or "prepper self sufficiency" scemes.

Problem with using uranium as a propellant is that one still would need a primer explosive to set it off... one could theorise that an increased amount of nickle + water + electricity "would" provide some explosion but not even close to the required amount, but then at least you have AN explosion to make the lore fit...

This is why we dont use uranium propellant in modern days, if we ignore radiation we would need more explosives to set off the uranium then we would get delta V from the uranium, even at the "battleship cannon" scale..Over engineering at its finest!

Still a really cool mod!
