Midcentury Roadside Business Set (1950s-1960s)

Description
Diners, Drive-ins, and Divas!

Enjoy a pack complete with EIGHT (8!) entirely unique low commercial assets for all your suburban needs!

The middle of the last century was an economic boom-time for the postwar Untied States. Flush with capital, industrial capacity, and technological optimism, American leadership turned its sight on infrastructure investment and economic opportunity. Along with the GI Bill and Federal Highway Administration came plenty of opportunity for a plethora of business catering to the exploding consumer class.

To compete for attention and precious sales dollars in an increasing automotive-centric suburbia, modernist architects birthed a flashy new style: Googie[parametric-architecture.com]. This new school was characterized by exaggerated rooflines, sharp angles, hyperbolic curves, and plenty of gleaming glass and steel. Believe it or not - strip malls used to have drama!

Now you can have a gaggle of wondrous Googie artifacts right in your very own cities!

Description

Included in this pack are eight different roadside drive-up Mid-century Modern businesses (and one sign element!) built sometime in the height of the Googie/Populuxe period from the mid 1940's to the late 1960's. Elaborate swoops, points, and curves abound in these futuristic starbursts.

Specifically, there are several 2x4 shops or restaurants, a bowling alley, and supermarket/grocery store. Get a milkshake and burger or knock down some pins on the lanes. And - be sure to sip a martini from the attached tiki lounge!

Additionally, there is a stonework "signpost" asset that pairs perfectly with the supermarket asset. You can see it in Image 10 (East Coast urban scene) in the above gallery.

Dependencies (none)

That's correct. No dependencies. I used a few vanilla props for decor.

These do pair nicely with zetu.harry's midcentury and Googie signs!

Youtube

Hey! I have a Youtube channel now with various C:S tutorials. From in-game detailing to asset creation and import, subscribe to learn how to bring your very own assets into your very own game (and -hopefully - share with the rest of us!)

2nd video will show the process of making one of these assets in Blender and importing it into the game.

Stay posted for it this week!

@dudemeister -- hahaha...no problem about deleting...stuff happens.

I guess we both learned something new with this. :smileyflag:

Lemon I have no idea how I removed your comment, my apologies.

Yes you're right not at all you. Definitely going to upload props separate in the future.

See anything else, let me know I'll try to fix it up!

I see what you mean... it's baffling. Seems like it's auto-set when the asset is uploaded.

Remedy to both issues is to remove the prop asset from this pack & release it in a pack with some other props I've been working on. Please let me know if this causes any disruption to the building assets ingame.

Thanks for the heads up y'all!

@dudemeister -- I'm not sure I was clear enough...at the very top of this page on the right side below the smaller image of this asset is shows: "Assets: Prop" above the file size. Don't you set that categorization yourself?
dudemeister  [author] 4 Mar @ 1:55pm
They come up as Building, Commercial, Commercial Low in the editor. They appear as buildings & not props when I place them. perhaps the descriptions have "prop" somewhere in them, and they come up in searches for props? Anyone else seeing them as props?

Should have fix for the large LOD for the one prop asset in a coming set of releases.

@dudemeister -- Why are these categorized as "Prop"?? I found these completely by accident when I was looking at other props within the "Prop" category.

@dudemeister, It's a LOD texture. As far as I know, LOD textures are not shareable because they stored in one big texture atlas. Even so, this texture will be rendered even from a far away, that would resulting in loss of performance.
dudemeister  [author] 10 Jan @ 6:44am
@Kridershot, It uses the same textures as the other assets in this set. There should be no additional memory usage for that asset if you use Loading Screen Mod.

Loading Screen Mod report:
MidcMidcentury Roadside Signpost - Very large LOD texture 1024 x 1024
