Description

Main info:
BAZ-5921 is a special floating wheeled chassis, used for mounting the launcher of tactical missile systems 9K79 "Tochka", 9K79-1 "Tochka-U" and other weapons and military equipment. The chassis was intended for movement on all types of roads, on terrain and in inland waters, in all climatic zones with high humidity and dust in the surrounding air, and were also adapted for delivery by rail and air transport. Externally, this version was distinguished by a wedge-shaped front part of the hull, small frontal and narrow triangular side windows with bulletproof glass. A lifting ramp with guides for launching one missile and a hydraulic mechanism for changing the elevation angle was mounted at the rear of its cargo compartment. In the transport position, the rocket was located horizontally, and to protect the cargo and camouflage, the aft compartment was closed from above with two long side flaps with remote electro-hydraulic control. Additional equipment included navigation reference and launch preparation equipment, four hydraulic jacks and two fuel tanks.

The appearance of the new Tochka complex was associated with the exhaustion of the capabilities of the Luna-M serial tactical system with unguided missiles, which at the end of the 1960s led to the decision on the need to saturate the Soviet Army with new complexes with a controlled missile trajectory.

The development of the 9K79 "Tochka" tactical missile system began with a decree of the USSR Council of Ministers dated March 4, 1968 on the creation of a mobile "divisional missile system with high-precision shooting", designed to destroy small-sized (point) targets and also based on floating off-road chassis vehicles. It consisted of two main wheel systems - the 9P129 launcher and the 9T218 TZM, which worked with 9M79 series guided missiles with a length of 6.4 m, a launch weight of 2010 kg, various types of warheads and a flight range of 25 - 70 km. In 1973 - 1974, the complex passed state tests and was put into service in 1976.

Based on the results of its operation and combat use, since 1989 an improved 9K79-1 Tochka-U fuel dispenser has been produced with increased accuracy and increased accuracy to 120 km. firing range and reduced preparation time for missile launch, which included the modernized SPU 9P129M-1 and TZM 9T218-1. Both complexes entered service with missile battalions of motorized rifle and tank divisions of the Soviet Army, as well as in the Warsaw Pact countries and a number of Asian and African states, and participated in combat operations in the Middle East, Angola and Chechnya.

In parallel with the creation of the combat unit of the Tochka TRK at the Design Bureau of the Bryansk Automobile Plant under the leadership of chief designer I.L. Yurin carried out the design of floating hull chassis. The leading designers were, respectively, A.I. Kiryushkin and I.V. Grinchenko. It is quite natural that their design basis was the tried and tested rear-engine chassis 5937, which were already produced at the same time, and the relocation of the power unit to the middle part of the chassis did not actually lead to significant changes in the design of their units and basic parameters. On the most unified chassis 5921/5922, the same onboard transmissions, suspension, pneumatic-hydraulic brake system, steering, tire pressure regulation system, water-jet propulsion, electrical equipment and a set of additional equipment were installed. In principle, they used the same 300-horsepower diesel engine with a duplicate starting system, but it was distinguished by a more powerful cooling system with two radiators and a pre-heater of increased power. The transmission had 18 cardan shafts: two additional shafts served to rotate the electric generator to drive special equipment. The reinforced I-247B tires of the previous size 1200x500-508 were considered new. The only real novelty was a larger and taller welded sealed hull of increased capacity with a new layout, a central location of the engine compartment and two work spaces - a forward control compartment with two access hatches in the roof and an aft one to accommodate special equipment.

Prototypes of chassis 5921 were built at the end of 1971 and went to the Volgograd Barrikady plant for special equipment; their serial production began in May 1974, two years before the Tochka dispenser was officially adopted into service. Having gained experience in manufacturing welded frame bodies of the previous series 5937/5939, the bodies of new cars began to be assembled on mechanized stands with fixation of the main elements, and the roof frame - on a stand with pneumatic clamping of all elements.

The first launcher 9P129 of the Tochka TRC was built on the experimental chassis 5921 in 1971 and was equipped with a 9M79B missile with a maximum flight range of 70 km. In 1971 - 1973, after test launches, serial production of 9M79 series missiles with different warheads (nuclear, high-explosive, chemical, cluster, etc.) was organized. Since 1976, the Barrikady plant has installed equipment for the modernized 9P129M launch system with 9M79 missiles of various variants on serial chassis 5921. The Tochka-U missile launcher with the new 9M79-1 (9M721) missile used a modernized 9P129M-1 installation, whose combat weight increased from 17945 to 18438 kg. For the purpose of secrecy and surprise of the strike, the missile was raised to the firing position (at an angle of 78º) in 15 seconds. before the start. The preparation time for launch, depending on specific conditions, ranged from 2 to 16 minutes. For all launch systems, the maximum speed on the highway was 60 km/h, on dirt roads - up to 40 km/h, off-road - 10-15 km/h, afloat - 8.0 km/h, cruising range - 650 km .
