Type VIIC U-Boat

The Type VII U-boat, an iconic submarine developed by Nazi Germany in World War II, was renowned for its sleek design and versatility. This "replica" of the Type VII is relatively accurate. The indoor walls and placement of each room is accurate. Operationally this is one of the most realistic submarines I have seen in Stormworks. There are realistic ballast tanks where you blow them with compressed air and need to manage air pressure systems. Overall feel of the replica is close but not quite there. I know there are some parts that are not realistic and there is no need to notify me (I have probably left it out on purpose). The boat has working and reloadable torpedoes.

This replica is recommended to use with 1-5 players. The available roles are: Captain, First officer (controls dive planes), Engineer, Torpedo room operator and a spotter. Every player is not needed because there is a cheat control panel where you can make the controls easier to operate. There is a sextant on the conning tower.

CODE FOR THE TORPEDOES, WEAPON ROOM AND CHEAT PANEL IS 1702.

1. First step is to head to the Electric Motor Room (stern of the boat) and enable all needed fuses. (Pretty much all of them) It is also recommended to enable the air compressor. Engines are started from the Electric motor room. Remember to enable the electric motor fuse before using electric drive!
   
2. The next step is to go to the cheat control panel (On the right side of the map table in the control room) and enter the code 1702. The panel will appear when the code is entered.
   
3. Enable the needed features according to your preference and the player count.
   
4. Enable diesel or electric drive next to the telegraph. Steering is done with the arrows or heading hold. (If you have a engineer onboard he will need to activate the drive mode in the electric motor room.
   
5. The motor batteries are charged by the main engines. To toggle charging put electric drive on and make sure that the diesel engines are running.

1. Flood ballast using the cranks in the control room.
   
2. When the ballast tanks are filled start pitching down with the manual dive plane control or the pitch angle set.
   
3. Level of at the wanted depth and use trim tanks to gain neutral buoyancy.
   
4. When you want to surface blow all main ballast (not the trim tanks) and start pitching up. Make sure that the ballast flood valves are closed.

NOTE: Diving and surfacing should be done with at least slow speed setting with electric drive. Submarines do not dive/surface using ballast. They do it with diving planes.
NOTE: Stern trim tank is filled from the stern main ballast so the main ballast needs to have water for filling the stern trim tank (this was done because of space constraints).
NOTE: You can close off the bow air tanks in the Generator room to fill the tanks faster. This is a high risk maneuver. If the tanks rupture you will loose all pressure.

Instructions for the specific roles:
Your job is to lead the other crew and aid in the control room.
Your job is to follow the captains orders and control the sub dive plane positions.
Your job is to reload and fire the torpedoes.
Your job is to spot the enemy and inform the captain what you see. When you see the enemy alarm is normally used.
The engineer follow the engine telegraph orders and switch between electric and diesel drive. You need to monitor the engines, monitor air pressure systems and ventilation systems.

1. Turn on the weapons fuse (electric motor room) and enable torpedoes in the torpedo room.
   
2. You can enable the homing torpedoes from the cheat panel.
   
3. Set the torpedo angle. Value needs to be between -89 to 89. (Positive is to starboard) The angle is degrees relative from the boats bow. (only needed in unguided mode)
   
4. Fill the torpedo tubes and open the outer hatch when they are filled. (to fill the tube, front main ballast needs to have water.)
   
5. Enter the fire confirm code 1702 and and fire the torpedoes.
   
6. Empty the tube and open torpedo hatch.
   
7. Reload the torpedoes using the panel in the center of the tubes.
   
8. When reloading disconnect the torpedo when it doesn't move and use the secondary rail to push it all the way.
   
9. Now you can repeat the firing process.
   NOTE: Torpedoes are not recommended to be fired towards a ship that is moving away from you.

• When diving it is recommended to use half throttle (10 knots) in order to save electricity.
  
• It is recommended to only blow the ballast when close to the surface.
  
• Before you dive make sure that you have enough air in the tanks. (over 16 bar)
  
• It is recommended to be moving when diving and surfacing.
  
• When using the periscope there is a number on the top right of the screen. That number is the relative angle from the boats bow in degrees.

My boat is not surfacing?
Check your air tank pressure. If you don't have air in the tanks the ballast cannot be emptied. Also check that the ballast flood valves are closed.

Why isn't the ballast emptying?
Make sure that you are not too deep in the water and make sure you have enough compressed air.

Why isn't the boat moving?
Make sure that the engines are running and make sure that you have selected diesel or electric drive mode.

Why is there exhaust in the sub?
That is a but in the game. I can't do anything about it sorry :(
