Nogard Etarip - Scourge of the Skies

Description
Rumors have spread throughout the Air Armada of a fearsome sky pirate. Will we ever be safe from his wrath. Nogard Etarip crumples up the newspaper and smirks.

This is my entry for the Rivals of Aether 2 character contest: Nogard Etarip. He is a sky pirate who has been a thorn in the air armada's side for quite some time now. Now he terrorizes any battlefield with devastating grabs and exploding barrels.

Nogard Lore:

Nogard was born between the air and fire nations. As a result they have the ability to fly and breathe fire. Despite this multicultural background, Nogard felt that he belonged to neither. Hiding their origins, Nogard joined the air armada as a cadet.

Nogard utilized his immense strength throughout his career in the air armada, able to carry around barrels, supplies, and even heavy machinery. No one really questioned where he came from with the results he was putting out. That is, until his origins were uncovered by a pesky news reporter.

Branded as a fire nation spy, Nogard was dishonorably discharged and his involvement in the air armada stricten from the history books. Noagard saw the flawed ways of the Air Armada, and with no where left to go, formed his own crew with the intention of tackling the Air Fleet through hit and run tactics.

Now the world knows him as the Scourge of the Skies


Neutral special is a grab. It can be used in the air, gives back your double jump if it hits, and has four directional follow-ups:

-Forward Throw is good kill move at high percents.

-Up Throw is an upward toss that can combo into itself at low percents.

-Down Throw has fixed knock-back to sets up for forward special mind games.

-Back Throw is a dragging move that moves backward a bit before toss the opponent.


Side Special is a burst movement attack and spinning suplex command grab. On the ground it sends you 45 degrees upward and in the air it sends you at a 45 degree angle downward.


Up Special is a wing flapping move. It's fast to rise but eventually reaches a cap. You can act out of it with attacks, specials, double jumping, etc. This makes it useful in neutral but risky when recovering low.


Down Special has 2 parts to it. The first part ignites a cannon. This starts a timer above your player icon and lasts 8 secs. After 6 secs you can re-fire the cannon, a frame 1 projectile. If it hits 0 you explode which also hits your opponents.


Besides being a grappler there is another gimmick at play: The barrels.

The barrels are projectiles that spawn from smash attacks.

-Forward strong sends a barrel forward at a low angle and the barrel launches the opponent towards you.
-Up strong sends a barrel at a higher and also launches the opponent towards you.

Down Strong is special however. The down strong barrel can receive knock back from both you and your opponents.
This barrel is also affect by your other specials.

-Neutral special lets you grab the barrel and toss using one of the four directional throws. It will explode after a couple of seconds.
-Forward Special let's you suplex the barrel, exploding it instantly.
-Down special also let's you explode the barrel instantly.

The normals are pretty straight forward. Up tilt let's you jump cancel and down tilt let's you dash cancel.


This character was made using the Sandbert with Smartphone template by Muno. However, I haven't added a special functionality with the character so the tips and info will be related to sandbert instead.


This is my first Rivals of Aether character that I made and it was really fun to do. I look forward to making more in the future. I would like to thank the workshop discord for their feedback on animations and artwork as well as answering all of my questions related to coding.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into the barrels. I want to try unify them so that all strong barrels can be hit.

WOW What a char!,the idea is clear and simple but have 2 things that are kinda wacky:

- DSTRONG barrel is so good but would be better if they work like the FSTRONG when hit ( in the case he apparently just pass trough the enemy without any feedback

- The design is kinda a mess, i think that that would be much better if you make a real winged beast like a Woodpacker + a Falcon (and the grabs he poking the enemy and trowing them)


Overall i love the idea, good luck with the contest!
