Description
Thank you for the front page opportunity and the up-votes. Its much appreciated!

The IEC Excelsius Mobile Base Mk2 is an upgraded mobile base built for long term planetary exploration and patrol. With a more advanced suspension than the Mk1 version the Mk2 version is capable of increasingly smooth ride for its size, while at the same time providing maximum grip to the planet surface for optimum thrusterless drive power. The Mk2 is capable of consistent and safe speeds of 180 km/h and is built with an easier to use, replicate, and robust suspension system. This allows the Excelsius to travel nearly anywhere with safe piloting practices. The Excelsius comes complete with everything needed for survival, including oxygen/hydrogen systems, refinery and assembly systems, a spacious vehicle bay equipped with docking plates, a moderately sized flight deck, refueling arm, and more.

General Info:

4 assemblers
2 refineries
4 hydrogen engines
2 hydrogen tanks
2 oxygen tanks
2 o2/h2 generators
2 ore detectors

Notes for driving:
==============
With a simplified drive system, there is no need for a complicated instructions to get driving. Although the Mk2 is able to travel in speeds greater than 180 km/h, its not able to brake on a dime. Care should be taken when traveling at high speeds to watch for obstacles you may collide with.

Awesome. Let me know what you find out with it. If you need help with its setup, let me know as well.

alright, I'll load it up on the boi and see what happens

Advancements in the suspension build have also shown that the more weight you want to support, the more surface area you need to spread the weight across, otherwise the "spring" wheels are more likely to push through the blocks they push against. Along those lines, the block used for the "spring" to push against is also important and needs to be as thick a block as possible to prevent the push through problem. Using the torsion spring script reduces the surface area needed by reducing the amount of weight the "springs" have to support.

ok...I'll try to find a torsion spring script then

I've seen what you're talking about and found that tends to be more of an issue with speed than anything else. The longer you stay at really high speeds, the more it tends to happy. I've also found on the larger mobile bases I've built it can be avoided more using a torsion spring script. Adding the torsion spring script reduces the weight impact on the wheels used as springs.

Really like this design, but there's one small issue...the wheels that make up the suspension system (the "spring" ones) kinda clip into the blocks around them over time, and after a while said blocks kinda just strike the ground and obliterate themselves.

I can provide screenshots to better showcase what I mean, if needed. And if there's a way to fix it...please let me know. This issue is kinda making this thing an immobile base right now...

Oh yes! Now I want to get on course after the Kapisi :D

earth's gravity is not as strong as on the alien planet. Since the alien planet's gravity is heavier I build and test it there to ensure it'll work on planets with a lesser gravity.

It does. If you find the suspension is too strong turn down the strength the blocks labeled "spring"
