Medieval Climate Change

Description
This mod introduces a series of historical climate events ranging from the volcanic winters of 1257-1262 (in the wake of the Samalas Eruption) to centennial-scale climate anomalies over Europe.

Beginning in 950 A.D., and lasting until 1250 A.D., counties in Europe will be impacted by the Medieval Warm Period. Historically, this period was characterized by considerable population growth across the European continent. This mod reflects this by applying a slight boost to supply and development growth, in counties across Europe, during the Medieval Warm Period.

In the late game, from 1300 A.D. on, the Little Ice Age will descend upon Europe and impact supply and development across the continent. Colder winters and less reliable summers will slow development growth and reduce supply throughout the continent.

Between the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age, the Samalas Eruption of 1257, set off a period of global cooling that lasted 5 years. This mod adds this series of volcanic winters to the game. The effect of such volcanism is primarily on supply. During the 5-year period from 1257 - 1262, global changes to precipitation and temperature will reduce supply across the map.

Do I have to worry about compatibility at all? Running a fair few other mods.

*When I say Control, I'm actually thinking Control Growth. Like a blanket negative modifier on Control Growth.

Might I suggest that these climate events also impact County Control? The biggest immediate effect of climate changes is food supply, which can then impact crime as people compete for resources. Of the existing game mechanics, I feel like Control simulates this best.

I would be interested to see the widespread effect of reduced Taxes and Levies, as a result of reduced Control, on the simulation.

@cuomo860 Pleasant summers, hot summers, hard springs, soft springs, rainy autumn, hard autumn, floods, droughts etc... and that all this has an impact on the cities and the armies.

The game does not have this, at least I have not seen it in almost 2000 hours played.

@Lurumagno There is varied weather in the base game.

Hey mate,good mod!

I was wondering if you have the idea of implementing varied weather for the 4 seasons of the year, it would be great, I think it's something that should come in the base game.

Regards and ty for the mod.

@Fourtyounces. The volcanic winter event will effect all counties in the game. @Spaceracer The Little Ice Age and Medieval Warm Period had significant impacts in Europe (especially in Northern Europe and across the North Atlantic) which is why the mod primarily focuses on these in-game regions.

As for climate impacts beyond Europe. Its definitely something I'd consider adding to the mod in the future, especially for players who like to play outside of Europe. That said, I'd want to do a bit more research first. Climate anomalies outside of Europe, during the in-game period, vary widely in their impacts and timing (e.g. extreme aridity in Egypt from 10th-11th century and cold winters in Persia/Mesopotamia from 950-1050 AD). If I can find a bit more data on regional climate impacts I'll definitely consider building them into the mod.
