Zero-Lag Vertical Stabilizer

Description
Thanks to the space update, it is now possible to replicate how real stabilizer systems achieve accurate movement.

Installation guide:

The moving parts must be mounting on a VELOCITY pivot with NO POWER. This makes it behave as a free moving hinge. infinite electricity will make this not work.

Place the reaction wheel sideways with the positive arrow going up

Make sure the tilt sensor is on the same subgrid as the moving parts

Counterweights aren't needed, but it reduces the saturation from trimming out excess forces.

Balancing

Enable the option "Suspend Control" to let the assembly move under it's own weight.
Adjust the trim in the controller to make the gun naturally balanced on the pivot.
Disable "Suspend Control" to return assembly to controlled behavior

The best performance I've gotten was using sticky 10% sensitivity. It should work with slower movement fine but if you want to increase sensitivity you may need to adjust the PID or it can overshoot.

DISCLAIMER: I have not tested this in a combat environment. If you run into an issue or have a suggestion to improve the performance of the controller please leave a comment

If you upload a creation using this please credit me :)

You mentioned having some issues with balancing the gun on the pivot. Maybe the 1x1 rocket booster xml edited with more fuel can get it balanced?

yeah

@Novum33 After a lot of testing, I've found this is really hard to implement well into a vehicle. It seems every part of the gun perfectly balanced on the pivot in order to achieve a proper effect. It's a good first step but this looks far from a combat-ready state

Are reaction wheels too weak to work with this or am I crazy/doing it wrong

Even with it balanced out the mass of the gun is so heavy the multiple reaction wheels cant keep it stable and it wigles slowly and lags behind anyways

That is a great idea, using the reactionwheels. Nice.
