Description
Play as the son of Genghis who was cast aside, Chagatai; in Sid Meier's Civilization VI.

After the death of the Great Khan, the Mongols had little time for grief as their vast domain required administration. Enter Chagatai Khan, the second son of Genghis Khan, the dynast chosen to enforce the sacred yassa, or the secret laws of the Mongols created by Genghis Khan and a private council. Chagatai's personal domain covered the Altaic Mountains and was expanded to cover much of Inner Asia. It is perhaps of these vast, mountainous lands in Inner Asia that medieval sources refer to the Chagatai Khanate as the "Middle Empire" of the Mongols. The Chagatai Khanate struggled for stability and loot. Being trapped between the Great Horde, the Ilkhanate, and Mongolia proper and the later Great Yuan, the Chagatai Khanate's only avenue for pillage and booty was India. The later Chagatayids were too incapable to despoil India, ultimately, this Khanate would disintegrate into several splinter khanates: Moghulistan, Yarkand, Turpan, and Transoxiania. Despite living in ages of tribal and jihadist struggle, the Chagatayids produced their own language rather than a synthesised culture or hybrid ethnicity. The Chagatai language became a major Persianate-Turkic language used across the steppe and as far as Azerbaijan. The Chagatai language was eliminated by the Soviet Union, which referred to it as "Old Uzbek," and Communist China, which referred to it as "Old Uyghur." Many of today's Turkic languages still resemble their archaic ancestor of Chagatai.

  • Agenda - Black Sheep: Likes civilizations that pillage many tiles and that do not compete for Great People. Dislikes civilizations that have pillaged few tiles and compete for Great People.

    CIVILIZATION: CHAGATAI
  • Trait - Chagatayid Literature: Defeating an enemy unit grants +1 Great Writer points and Culture equal to 15% of enemy Combat Strength, tripled in or adjacent to home territory and enemy territory respectively. Inspirations grant +10% Culture when at war.
  • Alt Names - Moghulistan, Yarkand, Turpan, Kashgaria, Middle Mongolia.
  • Spawn Bias - Tier 1 Desert Hills/Desert Mountains, Tier 3 Plains Hills/Plains Mountains, Tier 5 Grassland Hills/ Grassland Mountains.

    CIVILIZATION UNIT: MINGGHAN
  • Chagatayid unique Medieval era Heavy Cavalry class unit that replaces the Knight. +4 Combat Strength in or adjacent to home territory. +1 Movement when starting the turn in enemy territory. Capturing a city grants +3% Food and Culture for the next three turns per active Mingghan.

    CIVILIZATION IMPROVEMENT: GER
  • Unlocks the Builder ability to construct a Ger, unique to Chagatai. +1 Great Writer point per turn, maximum +10 Great Writer points from all Gers. +1 Housing. +1 Food with Divine Right. +1 Culture with Nationalism. Standard Culture adjacency from Mountains. Camps gain standard Gold adjacency from Gers. Pastures gain standard Production adjacency from Gers. Gain Food equal to 50% of tile Appeal. Additional Tourism with Flight. Must be built on a tile with at least Charming Appeal.
