Description
Affiliation: Artemis United Coalition

Series: Vigil Series

Class: Light Cruiser

Area of Operation: Space/Moon

Registry #: 227

Designation: Helios

The Helios hails from the Vigil Series, a Gen 4 design pattern that currently enjoys the AUC employ. Although less armed than previous generations, the Vigil Series makes up for it with higher overall acceleration and maneuverability.

Functioning as a Heavy Cruiser, the 227 primarily acts at distance, sniping enemy ships and then employing hit and run tactics that normally wouldn't be employed by such a large vessel. Although sporting less JDS than previous iterations, it has a higher overall power output, allowing it to hop around the AO with surprising ease. While not designed to tank a lot of hits, redundant subsystems allows the 227 to function even after taking damage, so long as it is not critically disabled.

Sporting 6 railguns and 10 Artillery turrets, the 227 is able to dish out enough ordinance to make most enemy ships wary of approaching.

While the Gen 4 ships still sport the Ring, it has taken on an altered form, incorporating ion thrusters to assist in propulsion and helping to draw enemy fire with embedded decoy units. Like all AUC ships, the 227 has an onboard Mayday beacon that can be activated and function as a jump target for friendly vessels if stranded/attacked.

\\\\\ LORE /////

The 227, during its test flight, encountered hostile SOR forces attempting to make a run on Helios outpost. A waystation serving as a civilian rest point for refueling and repairs. While it was not a critical strategic point for the AUC, the Captain at the time decided that it would be a prime opportunity to see just how well the new ship model would fair against hostile encounters.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the 227 not only routed enemy forces, but nearly wiped them out with only a few retreating during the battle. Employing the new tactics the ship was designed for, it make quick work as it darted around the AO, striking enemy ships before quickly moving on to avoid incoming fire. The ship was only provisioned with half the fuel and ammunition reserves it was intended to carry but still managed to hold its own and protect the waystation.

After it returned to the drydock, the ship was awarded the name 'Helios' in appreciation of its efforts under unexpected and dangerous circumstances. The name Helios taken from the waystation, a reminder of why the AUC exists.
