The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri describes Dante's journey through hell on earth, accompanied by the Roman poet Vergil. The poem is an allegory of the soul's journey to itself. Dante dedicated the entire Divina Commedia to his childhood love Beatrice. She is, on a metaphorical level, the mediator between man and God. Dante seems to be telling us that it is the feminine side of God's nature that makes man's redemption possible.
