Graphics Settings Overview + Optimization
By SaintsEagle
The game turned out to be quite demanding, and not all PC players can get consistently high fps on their systems. In this guide, I will tell you which graphics settings you need to choose in order to achieve a balance between a beautiful picture and high performance. This is ENG translation of my guide is RU guide, so some of the images will be subscribed in Russian. I hope this is not a problem for you. If there are a lot of reviews, I will fix it later.

Preface
Valhalla requires a fairly powerful graphics card, but you can get high FPS even with a medium-powered processor. Whereas in The Odyssey, a significant number of frames per second was lost due to an overloaded CPU of almost any class. Below are the settings and their impact on performance.
System requirements table:
Screen settings
  • "Viewing Angle" . Increasing it will reduce performance as more objects and surfaces will be removed into the frame. Therefore, it is better to leave the default value at 100%.
  • "Limit f/s" . For a video card 1050TI and below, it is better to make a lock of 30 frames. This will reduce the load on the system and even out the frame time.
  • "Window Mode" . Select "Full screen" to have the system allocate maximum resources to the game itself without maintaining the Windows interface.
  • "Permission" . In order not to affect the clarity of the interfaces, you need to set the native resolution of the monitor (in most cases - 1920x1080). At the end of the "Screen" section, there will be an option to lower the resolution of the render itself.
  • "Vert. sync" . It is better to turn on vertical sync to remove image tears and increase the smoothness of the video sequence. In third-person adventure action games, input lag will not be noticeable. Turn off only if your monitor supports G-sync
  • "Modif. permissions" . It's best to leave 100% of the render if you're playing at 1080p. And on a 4K TV, try lowering it to 66%. This will result in a resolution of 2560x1440, which will be indistinguishable from 4K from a distance of 2-3 meters. SSAA enabled at 200% scaling
Graphics Settings
  • "Adaptive Quality" . Automatic decrease in render resolution to maintain the specified frame rate (30 or 60 FPS). It's best to turn off and lower specific options if you're playing at 1080p. But on a 4K TV, you can turn it on.

  • "Anti-Aliasing" (up to 18%) This setting greatly affects both the graphics component and the performance of the game. Reducing to a minimum will give up to 18% performance gain. Low and medium settings significantly reduce the quality of the graphics, because they scale the game from 0.85 to 0.92 of your original resolution, respectively. The default "Resolution Scale" of 100% uses the TAA method, when increased to 200% - 2xSSAA
    low/med/high:

  • "Environment" (processor-dependent) Responsible both for the quality of details at a distance, and for the distance of drawing high-quality textures.
On "Highest" the load on the processor increases greatly, and the detailing of distant objects does not change much. Therefore, it is better to lower it to the usual "High". Or even lower if you have a very weak processor.
    low/med/high/ultra/epic:

  • "Small Objects" (processor-dependent) Additional details on the surface of the earth, such as pebbles or small blades of grass. Recommendations are similar to the previous paragraph. Puts on high and forget. Doesn't affect performance in any way.
    low/med/high/ultra:

  • "Shadows" (up to 8%) .Resolution and visibility range of shadows. This happens very rarely, but in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the quality of shading has little effect on performance. Set it to medium or high. Visually, the difference between Ultra High and High settings is imperceptible, and the impact on performance is present.
    low/med/high/ultra:

  • "Volumetric clouds" (up to 10%). In Assassin's Creed Odyssey, this was the most "gluttonous" graphic option. In Valhalla, resource consumption has decreased by almost five times! Maybe it's a less sunny setting with more overcast skies. However, you will rarely pay attention to the sky. Therefore, it is better to lower the quality of the clouds to medium or high. The visual difference between Ultra High and Very High is negligible, and further the clouds get worse and worse.
    /med/high/ultra/epic:

  • "Water" (0%) This parameter does not affect performance in any way, but the visual component deteriorates noticeably. Leave on High and forget.

  • "Full-screen reflections" (up to 5%) In the game, only the water surface is reflective. But even at sea, the impact on performance is negligible. Leave it on. The water looks worse when turned off.

  • "Environment Textures" and "Character Textures" (up to 6 GB VRAM at 1080p) Parameters responsible for the detail of drawing surfaces and their clarity. If you have no more than 4 gigabytes of video memory, then downgrade to "Medium" quality. And on 6GB, you can set both parameters to "High".
    low/med/high:

  • "Depth of field" (0%). In Odyssey, background blur at maximum quality ate a bit too much FPS (up to 12%). A In Valhalla There is no difference in performance, while the difference in picture quality is enormous. Leave it high. The parameter obscures the background in the dialogues and makes the picture more cinematic and accentuated.

  • "Motion Blur" Many people do not like this effect, as it "blurs" the image during the game, and moving objects appear trails. Adjust to your taste. I left it on because it adds charm to the battles.

  • "Scaling." The game has only FSR 1.0 on board, due to the fact that AMD sponsored the development of the game and the result of advertising its brand. (Another reason to dislike this product)
  • Enabling FSR will make the picture sharper, add to your FPS. Useful for weak video cards
Results
Results. Change
As can be seen from the graphs, it will not work to increase FPS by lowering one setting - you will have to collect a little bit everywhere. In my opinion, the developer did a poor job of creating different performance levels, and in general, there are times when during dialogues or in some zones it can sag even on the most powerful hardware.
Below I will create presets for different levels of hardware:

Optimal settings for a weak PC ( GTX 960/1050 / R9 290 ):
Viewing angle: 100%.
K/c limit: 30.
Window mode: full screen.
Vert. sync: on
Mod. resolution: 100%.
Adapt. quality: off
Smoothing: low.
Environment: low.
Small objects: low.
Shadows: low.
Volume clouds: low.
Water: medium.
Full screen. reflection: incl.
Environment textures: low.
Character Textures: Medium.
Depth of field: low.
Motion blur: to your taste.

Optimal settings for a medium power PC (GTX 1070/1660SUPER /RX 590/) :

Crash is a long-standing drama of the game that has not yet been fixed. the only thing that can be done is to clean the cache (Google how to do this for Valhalla) and remove the uplay launcher in the game.

Will this guide help me? I can play this game for about 2 hours and then my game crashes..I haven't been able to determine what is causing the crash. Does anyone else deal with consistent crashing?
