Murlocs´s Ranged Rebalance

Description
Mod for fans of melee-centric battles:

I am a fan of melee heavy battles which imo are also more realistic to the time era. For example i do not remember a single historical battle from this time era where ranged played a important role, with the single exception of Battle of Carrhae. (Remember the 300 Spartans how they did not fear the hordes of persian archers? - ok that was a little bit more in the past but anyway). I tried to make this mod to make nerf ranged units, but to keep them realistic and strong if used right (for example shoot the enemy from a short distance from the back, where they do not have shields). All feedback, criticism and suggestions are welcome(for example more ammo ?).

Turning off projectile trails also recommended for more historical feeling.

Features:

I. Returns inaccuracy to ranged units
- I wanted to return inaccuracy to missile units similar to Med II. Tired of super accurate archers.
II. Major buff to shields
- Shields felt useless to me. Buffed. (Fun fact - some type of "small shield" in the files had block chance of 10%, and 1 type of thracian shield whopping 0%, :D)
III. Small buff to unit formations shield missile defense
- Buffed to feel more realistic and simulate the reflecting of arrows (for example by pikes)
IV. Nerf to slings damage (about 1/4)
- I felt slings deal way too much dmg for my taste. Their base dmg was nerfed by about 1/4 and their armor-piercing dmg also by about 1/4.

All feedback, criticism and suggestions are welcome.

@Seraphim Sword
Wow, thanks for this historical background !

Historians claim that slings were cheap and easy to learn to use (which is true), but the ammunition is a lot more complicated. Rocks were easy to find and pick up from the ground, however, their irregular shape = a lack of aerodynamics and a lack of accuracy. Good aerodynamics increases the effective range of projectiles. Also, the rocks would have different levels of hardness; meaning, that many would break apart on impact.

Small sphere shaped lead/ iron balls were used sometimes, and were far more deadly than random rocks from the ground. But, it was time consuming to make them, and expensive, since industrialization and mass production of cheap standardized goods only came about in the 1800's.

Spartans were trained to dance, so that they march in step to the battle drums; marching to a battlefield, as well as, when maneuvering into formation. This does not mean Spartans who were better dancers, were better fighters/ more deadly in battle. Also, modern military's around the world train soldiers in knife fighting, but the vast majority of those who have seen "action" have not relied on their knife fighting skills during their service. Romans training sling skills is merely another tool in the toolbox of a professional soldier.

After new information for me from @Kuronoshi209 and also reading some very interesting information on the internet about the effectivness of slings as an armour-piercing weapon, i decided to reduce my nerf of slings slightly.

@Kuronoshi209 oh ok, thanks for that information i did not know. It still feels weird to me seeing slings just casually murdering infantry en masse so I am not changing this mod because it makes the game more fun for me, but thanks for that information :D

Hey man, great interesting mod you have here. Also, just some historical context, slings are—generally—greatly underappreciated. In fact, historically, it was one of the greatest ranged weapons to ever exist, to the point that each legionary was actually trained to use the sling. (You can do your own research on this, I trust, and do correct me if I gave wrong information, but this is what I learned so far.)

I'm mentioning the slings because in your description, you nerfed them, which is understandable for gameplay purposes, but I thought I might just share this knowledge out there to you, and to anyone else who's interested.

All that said, thank you for the mod!

Yes, spread of slings was increased from 0(lol CA) to 4. But after testing i felt it was not enough. It is possible to make it higher, but i decided to make it this way.

Yeah increase of spread would help reduce the effectiveness of Slings tbh, I'd definitely wouldn't complain if you introduced that!

Awesome!
