Description
What is this?
This was heavily inspired by Piratesee's Painted Prisms and works alongside it, but technically makes it redundant ...

Adds ion beam emitters and prisms in '9' different colours.
These are handled by colour selection on the 2 new adjustable parts, hugely cutting down on part selection menu spam. The new parts also stack under the vanilla Ion Beam.

The parts do not touch the vanilla pieces at all, but copy all their values from them, so mods affecting the base game parts might not affect these too. The new parts are free after purchasing the base-game equivalent in career mode.

They will also be usable in Build and Battle by selecting the vanilla Ion Beam.

Ion beams pointed through the prisms will be coloured the same colour as the prism.
All colours are shown in the screenshots.

The mod adds the basic structure and structure-wedge to the Ion Beam groups in the editor menu.

Overclocking works for the ions now, allowing the same end-point lightning field that vanilla prisms do.
You can get the overclock for these by purchasing the vanilla overclock.
All BEAM shaders/colours changed and corrected for a better visual beam.
Added a new PINK colour.
Prisms given a cyclic-toggle colour selection to sidestep an issue in colour choice cutting the beam out.
Emitter toggle colour selection rearranged, the result of these last two changes means the mod is no longer reliant on the (much) older colours plugin
Numbers and stats checked to conform with meltdown ions.

Known Issues
  • SHOULD work correctly if mixed with vanilla emitters and prisms, but those are not a requirement

  • If adjusting the colour of a prism whilst it is active the beam might actually cut out. It should just need to be toggled off/on to resume firing correctly.
  • If part of an extended chain the prisms in the middle of the chain need setting to [Target Only] mode for best results, and maybe also channelled/blocked in by armour. The LAST prism in the chain should be able to handle changing the entire chain 'output' mode (Target Only, Hold, FireAtWill, Continuous)
  • I highly recommend designing your 'ion core/path' in TargetOnly mode.. and then using groups/selection to only aim the last prism in the chain ...
  • ... because sometimes the chain, just, breaks. And all prisms try to target the enemy themselves, and I have no idea why ... :(
  • Should not be continuously auto-firing when a prism is placed in front of an emitter anymore, but more testing required ....

I've seen a couple of mods with the effects mentioned, not sure if they have been updated though, there's also one that lets you convert ion beams shot into a special prism into regular energy

I think it would be very cool to see a prism that splits the beam in two, could be used for energy build up within a ion laser "circuit". would also be cool to see a Ion Capacitor that stores Ion energy to be fired when triggered. i don't know how possible that would be but i it would be really cool.

just checked emitters, they're all firing into the prisms and even after taking the last prisms in the chain and setting a target while they are set to fire at will and/or fire at target there is no reaction from the beam emitters. on a side note I calculated the far damage using the emitters from your mod using the set up i have and the end result is almost 7 million damage a second

found something odd, I have a ship where all but 2 of the 279 prisms are the adaptable ones added by this mod, when i tell the ones at the end of the chain to fire continuously nothing happens, the emitters are also from this mod, I will try manually resetting the targeting of all 128

needs to be updated, ion laser no longer fires at will, only fires the laser when told to fire continuously
