I recently looked through all the maps to see what they all had. When I went to the map "Fourth Station" I found a button that's labelled "Hold (Action Command) to open the gate" in this case it was just "Hold E". On the first press after a second the light next to the button 'turns off' and on the second press just makes a loud ass gate opening noise.
I'm wondering why this was put here as when I ran around the map a few times nothing had changed between the button presses. I'm assuming this was just an ol' Halo 2 development inside joke that was supposed to scare the other playtesters?

Fair, but that one map also has an issue where if you're falling for a full second you die and the checkpoint is awful.

@Halsi It's important to remember that anything "Digsite" is content left incomplete by Bungie and was touched up by a group of community members. From the Halo Waypoint article specifically:

"M1 - Defensive showcased Halo 2’s new AI systems and is not really meant to be played as a complete campaign experience, though it did get shown off to Electronic Gaming Monthly. While the map was never finished, we adjusted the map so that modders won’t have to do as much heavy lifting on polishing it further or making gameplay modifications."

The only purpose of Defensive was for Bungie to showcase a few new features behind closed doors to the press in 2002 and 2003. These are all neat to go through because they're kind of "What if" situations for the Halo universe, but it's best to go in under the assumption that none of these are feature complete and are solely a way to look at what was historically scrapped for the games to launch.

Exploration was absolutely awesome. Halo 2s version of silent cartographer in it's own way but so fucking cool. Defensive had an interesting start but the waves were so slow that it didn't seem like anything was happening. I did explore a little bit but other than driving the moongoose around it wasn't very fun. Assault literally had nothing happening but it was cool to explore. I found a weird way inside and all up to the top of the inside forerunner building. Very eerie since nothing was going on.

The M1 assault map crashes whenever you get near to the forerunner building. If it doesn't automatically crash it'll crash if you pause it whenever you get close.

M1 Defensive is not very well directed. It's a nice map, but it has no ending and is just kinda there lmao

@Am I Right, Marines?! Its likely they're holding off on releasing it (as well as a few others) until Permafrost (Blastacular map 03) is also finished, since they're the maps that all required a bit more work.

343 should reboot halo just by giving us the original halo2 story, then mixing halo 3 into it, id love to fight in a sky city

It would be really cool if someone took the time to polish these maps up to be matchmaking ready.

It would be great if there was a way we could subscribe to just the single player experience. Like how we can play the mission "Crash Site" and subscribe to the cut Halo CE Digsite map pack separately.
