The Metal Marvel:
With the CSS Virginia smashing apart the Union fleet with both ram and cannon, it picked up a pretty nasty reputation, a reputation that brought the majority of the Union guns bearing on the ship. Had it not been a floating cheese wedge made of metal that caused every bullet that hit it to fall harmlessly, we wouldn't have the Monitor. This next-level boss needed a next-level player to take it down. The Union knew they needed a metal boat, the problem was figuring out how to build it. A Swede by the name of John Ericsson knew how, the problem was getting the top naval officers to believe the thing wouldn't sink. Thankfully, the President himself saw the game-changer in the metal pancake topped by a measuring cup and approved the design. Come 1862, the all-metal, all-fat-and-flat, and all-strange USS Monitor left its New York iron yard after a quick 120 day assembly. It chilled on the rivers for a bit, leaving the crew time to fiddle around with its untested and all-new spinny turret. Then came the call that the Virginia was at it again, this time threating Washington itself. Down to Hampton Roads it went, ready for the ultimate battle. The two ironclads (a term for the earliest of iron warships) fell into a point-blank duel. Remember how I mentioned "metal that caused every bullet that hit it fall harmlessly"? Yeah, same goes for an ironclad shooting another ironclad. The vessels were so close together and would continously ram one another, yet their cannon shots would not penetrate. Finally, a cannon shot hit the Monitor's pilot box, blinding the captain, only for the pancake ironclad to hit the already damaged ram of the Virginia, turning a minor inconvinience into a complete loss of a weapon. In the chaos, Monitor slipped away to repair, and when the Virginia lost sight of it, they thought it had retreated. Then the Monitor came back and found the Virginia had left. The Virginia was later burned by its own sailors, and the Monitor, having no arch-rival, went on to support to the Union fleet. Or at least tried to, as it was found that its guns couldn't look up enough to hit anything. Like the Virginia, the Monitor was lost outside of the blazing glory of revolutionary combat. It sank in a storm off the coast of North Carolina just a few months later taking sixteen men with her. As always, written without AI, just talent

Manual:
Startup: (1) Enter the engine room and turn the "Prime Firebox" keys and press the "Stoke Fire" buttons on each boiler. (2) Set your desired firebox temperature, it's already set at a stable temperature (3) Go to each condensor and turn the "Condenser" keys, without them on, your pipes will clog and your system will rupture. (4) Set your Steam and Clutch telegraphs to whatever you want. I really recommend keeping the steam at '1', but if you're experienced do whatever. (5) Enter the pilot house. From there you can also adjust the telegraghs. (!) There are overpressure valves you can use to save yourself from blowing your boiler! Sinking: There are two ways to sink the ship: Either you allow your boiler to blow up / turn the sus key in the engine room (which force explodes the boiler) or let water wash over the ventilation stacks, which should work. Make sure you reach the lifeboat before everything sinks.

Author's Notes:
This replica of the USS Monitor finds most of its historical accuracy in the exterior. It's my first steam ship and true steam build in general, and going hand-in-hand with my terrible exteriors, the interior and the inner workings unfortunately aren't the most accurate. This goes comically fast for people who want to, but there is a note on the throttle that allows you to maintain more realistic speeds. I should mention that the reverse is painfully slow and really wants to sink the ship. I don't know a workaround. Anyways, hope you enjoy! It's my pleasure to flesh out history in a way you'll enjoy it, looking good, easy to understand, and fun to use.
