Wandering Zombies

Description

Completely configurable zombie wandering, B42 is supported.
Multiplayer compatible. You may want to change how often zeds wander for bandwidth reasons.

Watch the first video for a demonstration vs vanilla.
Check out the screenshots to see all the settings available, and their defaults.
Read the tooltips for further information.
Try the WIP version if you find the settings confusing or too difficult.
Wandering Zombies does not spawn zombies, and it never will.


Mini settings guide
Too hard? Try any or all of the following:
  • Use all tools at your disposal: Stealth, noisemakers, car sirens, Molotov's, guns, buildings, fences and trees
  • Start in Rosewood
  • Reduce your zombie population settings
  • Reduce zombie sight under Zombie Lore
  • Increase Num Ticks and/or Rand Ticks
  • Reduce Max Travel
  • Disable Try Stop Virtual
  • Set Homing Chance to 0
  • Reduce Random Chance

Too easy? Try any or all of the following:
  • Do the opposite of any or all of the above
  • Use Random Zombies to add sprinters and smart zombies

Incompatible Mods
Better FPS:
  • It reduces the size of the loaded world (active cell), which impacts the number of zombies that can be manipulated by Wandering Zombies, and the size of the area in which zombies can move around in.

Any other mod that does exactly what Wandering Zombies does.

Partially Incompatible Mods
Destroyable World Fences:
  • Wandering Zombies and Destroyable World Fences can cause some glitchy zombie behaviour if you do not turn off the "Custom Thumping Behaviour" that Destroyable World Fences has enabled by default.
  • I also recommend you significantly lower the health of the fences, so the zombies can actually destroy them in a reasonable amount of time, and create new paths for them to walk around.

Compatible Mods
If it's not listed above, then it's probably fine.

Can Wandering Zombies be used in mod packs?
Yes, it can, but:
  • I will not provide support to anyone using mod packs, as they could be outdated or modified.
  • You must provide a link to this workshop page in your mod pack.
  • Any and all modifications should be clearly documented, so anyone using and/or inspecting the code is aware they are using a modified version.

is there a way to make sure zombies spawn like vanilla, but there is a mixture of zombies in hordes but also lonely zombies? i dont just want only hordes. sometimes i want to loot a house and be snuck up on

@Ryuku: Just wanted to give you a huge "thaaaaank you!" for your absolutely amazing mods. Wandering & starving zombies are such a crazy good addition to an already awesome game. Your mods give the game a completely fresh feel and the gameplay is just crazy engaging. I love seeing zombies wander around in unusual places (and munching on their fallen comrades). Can't even put into words how much I appreciate the way it changes the game.

Awesome mod. Vanilla zombies always felt like stationary dummies in the vanilla game, but now it's much more dynamic and realistic :steamhappy:

Wait, so is this a *mod*, or a custom gamemode thing? Can this not be enabled on preexisting worlds?
