Grimsby Class Corvette

Description
THIS SHIP NEEDS A MODDED WORKBENCH / MISSION SPAWN

Overview

This 66 ½ meter long full interior corvette is based on a Commonwealth ship of the same name. When building her, my goal was to make her one of the most realistic and detailed ships on the workshop. Therefore most of her systems are similar to ones found on real ships, in both placement and operation. There are of course some simplifications for pure ease of use, and because of stormworks.

She makes just under 30 knots, thanks to her diesel-electric power plant. Electric power is generated by 4 straight-6 diesel engines which feed into 2 large electric motors driving 4 large propellers. Laid down in the interwar period, her intended purpose was to be a convoy escort, but with the start of WW2 she was modernized and put back into service. She gained 20mm anti aircraft guns, a new sonar, radars and a hedgehog anti submarine mortar system.

Due to her large size and high detail she is unfortunately somewhat taxing on the tps, and I recommend running your game on medium to low physics quality.

Starting

1) Venture below decks into the engine room, this can be done via ladders in the main hallway.
2) Flip the ”Master Valve Clutch” breaker, located between the ”Governor” and ”Engine Crank”
3) Open the ”Air Cox” and ”Fuel Cox”
4) Use the ”Air Primer”, until the ”Air Valve Inlet Pressure” reaches about 3
5) Move the ”Governor” lever to 1
6) Next, spin the ”Engine Crank”
7) The engine should now start
8) Repeat for the other engine
9) Venture to the Dynamos, just aft of the engines
10) Turn on the ”Dynamo Breaker”, and move the ”Dynamo Clutch” to 1
11) Repeat for the other engine room
12) Go to the engine control panel, located on the side of the engines
13) It is recommended to use the “Dual Motor Control” switch for ease, as you can control both electric motors from one engine room, if you prefer not to, both engine rooms are equipped with telegraphs and can operate independently, like a real warship.
14) Set the ”Motor Throttle” such that the ship’s speed matched the desired speed listed on the plaque making sure to follow the telegraph. Just a note, this is the ONLY place you can change the motor throttle, and thus the speed of the ship in the entire vessel.

Radar, Sonar & Rangefinding

Both the radar and sonar set are located in the Combat Information Center in the lowest deck of the superstructure, just under the wheel house.

Radar
There are 2 radar sets on the Grimsby. One long range, one short range. Both ranges are set in kilometers. They are very intuitive to use, with the top of the screen being the front of the ship.

Sonar
To use the sonar, flip the breaker at the base of the console. You can then use the controls as labeled. The sonar uses both active and passive means to attain target information, with target depth information only coming from active means.

Rangefinder
The Grimsby has a coincidence rangefinder at the top of the superstructure, which can be accessed via the wheel house in the space below. It is aimed via WASD, left and right changing the measuring angle, up and down changing zoom and 1 and 2 changing traverse rate. When climbing into the rangefinder, crouch and look to the left of the stalk. To use the rangefinder, align the image in the right bucket to the one in the left. There will be a calculated range (in meters) displayed on the dial on the wall, as well as on the screen. It isn't perfectly accurate, more of a good estimate. This is due to general inaccuracies in a system like this and the stormworks camera resolution.

Weapons

4” Guns
There are two 4” deck guns, one fore, one aft. Each is aimed via WASD. Their traverse speed can be varied with the up and down axis. The guns can be reloaded via ready racks located close to each mount. Ready racks can be replenished from the main 4” magazine located underneath the fore berthing compartment.

40mm Gun
There is one 40mm “Pom Pom” located a-midships in a crows nest raised mount. It is aimed via WASD. It's traverse speed can be varied with the up and down axis. Ready ammunition is held in the floor and in the compartment just under the gun. Ready racks can be replenished from the main 40mm magazine located underneath the fore berthing compartment.

20mm Guns
There are two 20mm mounts a-midships, one port, one starboard. Both are aimed via WASD. Their traverse speed can be varied with the up and down axis. Ready ammunition is held in racks just in between the mounts. Ready racks can be replenished from the main 20mm magazine located on the main deck, between the barber’s shop and mess.

Hedgehog Mortar
The hedgehog mortar is an anti submarine contact fused rocket propelled munition located on the forward superstructure. It has 3 salvos, which can be triggered 1, 2 or 3 at a time. Unfortunately, there is no way to reload the mortar even though there is a magazine for it.

Depth Charge Rails
The Grimsby has 6 depth charge rails, 2 main and 4 side rails. However they are NOT loaded by default. To load them, use the MK-IX depth charge, which can be found on my workshop, then paste said charge onto the rails with the “Selection Grid” editor tool. The side rails can hold up to 2 MK-IX Depth Charges each, while the main rails can hold up to 7 each. Each rail offers 3 separate fire modes. ”Drop One Charge”, which drops one depth charge. ”Drop All Delay”, which drops all the charges on the rail with a standard delay in each drop to cover a certain area. Finally, ”Drop All Charges”, drops all of the charges on the rail at once. Unfortunately, the depth charges are not reloadable.

Extra Information

Extra Information

- The red boxes scattered around the ship contain a medkit
- There are 2 underwater welders in each engine room, backup command center and the steering room. They're in the medium gray boxes
- There are “Flak Jackets” and other equipment around the bridge
- The “I Ate Taco Bell Button” aka the “Sh*t Scuttler” automatically scuttles the ship
- There are 4 different places you can steer the ship from, Wheel House, Flying Bridge, Backup Command Center, and the Steering Room
- For the reason of optimisation, the lifeboats do not work
- All of the lights in the ship have a “Red Filter” which make them turn red
- The ship has 102195 L of diesel fuel, held in one fuel tank, about 3 hours of fuel
- The hallway lights can be found in the electrical room, which can be accessed from the backup command center, you can also find the circuit breakers for every system in the ship

@dellreybeach, there are pumps, 2 of them. Both can pump out the engine room.

Alright, on my second attack it went much worse, It seems a single shot took out me due to hitting the front ammo stores. then I drowned due to the lifeboats being deathboats.
