USSF Fortitude Class Lunar Defense Destroyer

Description
Description

Lore:

Built in the early 2040’s the USSF Fortitude class is a tried and tested design in the United States Space Force defense fleet. Built by Lockheed Martin and Boeing the Fortitude is the most advanced space fairing ship currently in service. Constructed to defend newly established Lunar Colonies on the moon, the Fortitude class is in service with several other partner countries. Including the UK, Italy, France, Poland, Germany, and many others. The ship was born out of a need for a platform that could effectively defend US and allied space and lunar interests. Primarily being the territorial defense from foreign adversaries, and pirates alike. Because of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, and other treaties alike, that were signed in the early 2020’s the Fortitude’s capabilities are limited by said treaties. Therefore she has been classed as a “Lunar Defense Destroyer” or LDD for short. It features a radical vertical decked design, over older zero-g designs. With a dual hull design, akin to many naval submarines to help maintain a pressurized environment for the crew. The fortitude is further equipped with two Mk-15 Rail-guns which can penetrate and incapacitate enemy vessels from a distance. Furthermore, her compliment of Modified Harpoon anti ship missiles makes her a very formidable platform. Though her weapons complement is lacking compared to her naval counterparts, the Fortitude more than makes up for that in speed and agility. With her three RJ-122 Fusion engines the Fortitude can reach dazzling speeds. All complemented with a state of the art Stellarator fusion reactor. Which provides enough power to keep her flying for some time without needing to refuel or resupply. Further equipped with a main rail turret on her port side the Fortitude can snipe enemy ships from a distance. The Ship began production in 2042, with the first batch of 20 ship entering active service in 2044. Not seeing real combat until two years later when the LDD-25 Ticonderoga engaged two unidentified contacts. These contacts turned out to be modified Chinese made Hainan Defense Frigates. Operated by suspected pirates. Ordered to intercept and identify, the Ticonderoga was engaged by these two frigates. The ship repeatedly hailed these two contacts, but to no avail. Caught in a high speed joust the Ticonderoga’s target acquisition radar began lighting up. The ship was being painted by one of the frigates, which subsequently launched 10 modified HY-1J Anti ship missiles. Going defensive the Ticonderoga was forced to launch countermeasures, making a subsequent 15g burn to pull out of the missiles tracking cone. The Ticonderoga moving into railgun range proceeded to fire its main rail cannon at one of the contacts. Cutting the ship from stem to stern. With the enemy missiles circling back towards the Ticonderoga, her point defense began lighting up. 40mm slugs impacting and dismantling 5 of the 10 missiles. Still in danger the Ticonderoga again launched countermeasures, which the missiles engaged, the ship was able to continue burning towards the second Hainan class. Shooting the ships main reactor. USSF and Marine personnel were able to board and capture the enemy ship, the Captain of the Ticonderoga was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. Within this engagement the Fortitude’s capabilities were on full display. Showing how she could successfully defend US and allied interests on the moon and in the further system.

Authors Notes:

This ship has been in my blueprints for a little under a year, and is by far one of my favorite spin off faction builds. I should credit my friends Sevyrs and Simboulis for helping me with the interior and missiles respectively. This ship isn't super heavily armed or armored, but nonetheless works pretty well for what I wanted it to do. Anyways, stay happy and healthy! And most of all enjoy! :)

This ship is gorgeous. I'd love to see more ships in this faction style, you're really onto something with the look. It so neatly fits in with modern spacecraft coloring. Also the Hainan would be cool to see too!

Very nice build! Tell me; is the mentioned opposition (Hainan) available anywhere? Very curious as to how they compare as builds if it is.

i was talking about the one in the background of the last picture, just felt like i recognized it from the workshop somewhere but couldn't find it, so I was just trying to see if it actually was on the workshop or if I was crazy

The ship is heavily based off of the Expanse show series, so a lot of the design and aesthetics are meant to reflect that.

What is the ship from the last picture? I feel like I recognize it. I don't know why I feel like I do.
