SBA "Varta" - Ukranian MRAP

The vehicle was created specifically for the KORD special police and the special operations forces of the National Guard of Ukraine.[5]

It is based on the MAZ-5434 truck chassis.

The vehicle is equipped with a 380 hp Weichai engine with a torque of 1460 N-m.

Continental tubeless tires are used. The vehicle is equipped with a centralized tire inflation system.

Protection.
The VARTA armored vehicle uses not only a V-shaped bottom, but also the V-shaped geometry of the armor capsule itself. This protection allows the vehicle to withstand a charge of up to 8 kg of TNT equivalent, and also allows it to be replaced without replacing the armor capsule in case of damage to the bottom. In addition, it is equipped with modern mine-resistant seats for the crew and troops with a shock-absorbing effect[6].

The armor is made of Swedish steel with a hardness of 560, which allows reducing the weight of the vehicle's capsule by 11% without reducing armor resistance, resulting in an increase in payload. The armor protects the crew and troops from a 7.62×39 mm armor-piercing round. Also, for the first time in Ukraine, a modern external method of installing armor on an armored combat vehicle of this class was used in cooperation with a domestic armor manufacturer, which makes it possible to quickly dismantle and replace the armor in case of damage, and also increases the strength of the frame on which the armor is mounted[6].

To improve cross-country ability, the armored vehicle is fitted with Continental tires (in the future, it is planned to launch a mass production of domestic tires in cooperation with the Bila Tserkva Tire Plant), and the possibility of centralized wheel inflation from the driver's cab has been added. The wheel inflation control unit allows you to select different operating conditions (highway, dirt road, sand, mud, etc.). A reinforced dust/water-resistant winch is installed, complete with a 27.5 synthetic cable, which can be operated without gloves. The cable itself does not break off in the cold, and the synthetic cable is 85% lighter than metal. The winch has a capacity of 9979 kg.

The VARTA is also free of the most common weakness of domestic armored vehicles: armored door locks that cannot withstand daily use. The VARTA armored vehicle was fitted with handles and locks made by TriMark, which can withstand daily use of doors weighing up to 500 kg.

Armament
The walls and roof are designed to accommodate the installation of a crown turret or machine gun mount weighing up to 500-550 kg. It is possible to install a combat module with a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine gun and a BP-1 turret, which is similar to the turret mounted on BTR-70/80 and BRDM-2 and is armed with 14.5 mm and 7.62 mm machine guns. This allows the Varta to be used as an infantry support vehicle and checkpoint defense vehicle, as well as to unify the installation for any type of combat module.
