Description
UPDATE:
Added inlet to boiler so you can refill it using one of the free pumps near the fresh water tanks

Introduction

The Providence was known as the last ship to come home after the war. She survived many battles and sunk many ships. Today she serves as a museum ship but because she was such a warrior, Kriger has brought her back with a near perfect replica. The K589 Providence replica by Kriger has been modernized for modern combat while still maintaining her original look. Now you too can be just like the famous commanders of the Providence and captain your own!

IMPORTANT:
The Providence is built with multicrew PVE in mind. Kriger recommends you play with a minimum crew of 2, ideal with 3 or 4.
  • 1 Captain
  • 1 Chief Engineer
  • 1 First Mate
  • 2 Gunner/Loader/Deck hands
Few things are automatic, but this is the intended purpose as to keep the crew busy

Operation

STARTUP:

Head to the engine room and light 1 Firebox
Near the steam engine, turn on the Telegraph and Gauge Lights
Let the boiler warm up and the generator spool up.
In the meantime, head to the bridge’s navigation room and turn on all the breakers.
When the generator reaches around 115 000 watts the ship is ready to be operated

OPERATING:

Captain moves the Telegraph to the desired speed forward or backward.
Chief Engineer accepts the order by moving their own telegraph to the requested speed.
Watch your coal level and when the first firebox’s coal level is around 40 you can light the second firebox to alternate feeding coal to one firebox at a time. This will reduce the number of times you need to feed the firebox.
This is an old ship and water eventually seeps in so keep an eye out and use the Electric bilge pump when necessary.
You can also use the manual bilge pumps located across the ship.
The keel access has electric bilge pumps too if the keel gets breached.
You can always use the Steam Driven bilge pump too.

OPERATING THE STEAM DRIVEN BILGE PUMP:

The Steam Driven Bilge pump uses steam. Turn on the Steam Valve above the Steam Driven Bilge Pump and turn on the Steam Driven Bilge Pump Breaker.
Watch out for steam pressure in the Boiler as this will drain it over time. You might need to stop the return pump located below the Engine Room Telegraph to replenish the Boiler with water.

Chief Engineer advice:
Keep an eye on the Steam Pressure
Keep an eye on the Generator Output
Keep an eye on your firebox coal level.
Keep an eye on your Boiler water gauge.
Listen for the Telegraph bells and be as quick as possible.

OPERATING THE 76MM GUN:

BEFORE COMBAT:

  • Pack both empty ready round racks before combat
  • Pack both Magazine electric feeders before combat

DURING COMBAT:

  • Loader operates the Breech and feeds the rounds.
  • Gunner operates the gun by lasering target for range before every shot.

OUT OF READY ROUNDS:

  • Gunner and Loader carry rounds to the ready round racks from the Electric Feeder hatch.

MIND THE HORIZONTAL STAB: THE GUN WILL NOT REMAIN STATIC

DESALINATION PLANT:

In case you need to refill the Fresh Water tank, you can desalinate sea water to top off the fresh water tank.

PROCEDURE:

  • Open the Electric Valves located above the engine room.
  • Start both Sea Water Pump located in the engine room behind the engine
  • Near the Electric Valves located above the engine room, watch for both Sea Water Tanks for when they are full then stop both Sea Water Pumps.
  • Open the manual Fresh Water Valves above the Fresh Water tank and let the desalination plant slowly desalinate the water and fill the Fresh Water tanks with fresh water.
  • You can use the freestanding electric pumps next to each freshwater tanks to pump fresh water to the main tank

AUTHOR’S NOTES:

This ship is very loosely based on the WW2 Flower Class corvettes but with rockets astern instead of depth charges. The ship has been tested extensively with a crew of 2 to 3 against NPC enemy ships. It promotes good communication and is a good team building exercise.

Thanks to Labnux for helping out in testing. :)

aaah you're right, I completely missed it. It's been fixed now.

I am completely missing whatever part of this refills the boiler, then, because there is simply nothing connected. The hot water going into the boiler is in the heating loop and not the steam loop.

If you shut off the water return pump then the feed pump from the main water tank still keeps working and will over time refill the boiler.

Would you prefer I directly add an inlet to the boiler?

But how? I see no pipes or hose connectors leading to the boiler component to refill it with water other than the steam return from the condenser. Using that only stops the hot water from heating the boiler, but does nothing to actually refill it.

@Twilight Festival I've just added a screenshot up top that shows where the Water Return Pump can be stopped. If you shut that pump off then the Boiler can be refilled from the main tank

It seems that you cannot refill the steam boiler component itself? I am able to put water into the big fresh water tank just fine, but over time, it seems that I have just used all the water in the boiler component with no way to refill. Other than severe internal damage I do not see why I would need to ONLY fill the big water tank but never the boiler component.

actually now that i look at it more it only looks a bit big from the front and thats its intended location so nvm

Very nice ship, works well. Although the gun looks.. a tiny bit big so it kinda looks awkward, could probably be fixed by reducing the shield size by height length and width by 1 block each or maybe 2. sorry if i sound like a asshole for saying this lol

there's a secret button in the bridge to control the telegraph without having to go to the engine room. To shut down the firebox you can let them burn out while draining the steam from the boiler but I'm most likely going to add an air shut off soon :)
