Report a translation problem
I've seen the squares issue before while making mods. I think it happens when the game runs into an error before it can load the fonts.
All your installed mods can be found in the following folders:
{User Folder}/Zomboid/mods
{User Folder}/Zomboid/Workshop
{SteamPath}/steamapps/workshop/content/108600/
So just clear those out and see it goes. Steam will probably restore any subscribed workshop mods automatically though.
Newest at the top.
Because honestly, scrolling down to find the top of a stack trace is the real problem...
